MARSHFIELD MATTERS
Superintendent's Newsletter: 9/6/2024 #WeRMarshfield
THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL START TO THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
Thank you to all the educators, staff, families, and students who helped make this a wonderful start to the new school year. This year we will strive to create an environment that is focused on the whole student, as we focus on viewing all we do “Through the Eyes of the Student.” We are excited to help students achieve the gains that come from navigating their educational journey, as they understand their strengths and opportunities for growth. We will provide an optimal teaching and learning environment by promoting respect for self and others, nurturing positive relationships, embracing diversity, pursuing excellence, fostering collaboration, inspiring innovation and creativity, promoting responsibility, providing an equitable, supportive environment, and cultivating social emotional wellness.
Major topics of focus for the 2024-2025 school year include:
Deepening student engagement and voice in the teaching, learning, and leading throughout the district.
Expanding family and community engagement opportunities.
Focusing on rigorous and authentic instruction and assessment.
Auditing our current wellness, equity, and belonging throughout the district, as we create more opportunities to include all students and staff.
Implementing new curricula, including our new elementary ELA program.
Analyzing and improving our operational and learning structures and protocols.
Analyzing data and formulating a dynamic structure for our data dialogues.
Implementing the new Instructional Education Program (IEP).
Building a long-term budget vision to ensure sustainability.

Above all else, please know that we are here to support you and your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any staff member if we can help along this year’s journey. Sincerely, Patrick E. Sullivan, Ed.D. Superintendent Marshfield Public Schools
As is the case each summer, we had a lot of work happening to make the start of the school year successful. We had wonderful ESY and Summer School programming; we had excellent orientation activities for our students; we had successful leadership retreat days, including three days with our central office leadership, principals, assistant principals, and other district leaders. We had three safety meetings with Marshfield Police and Fire to review and refine all our safety protocols, including our new traffic patterns at the middle and high school due to our new school start times. Our custodians, facilities, and technology crew did amazing work getting the buildings ready, and our coaches and athletes did a wonderful job preparing for the season. Thank you to all the staff who took courses this summer, as well.
TRANSPORTATION, DROP-OFF, AND PICK-UP
Thank you for your patience as we work to create the best possible transportation, drop-off, and pick-up for all of our schools. We are working closely with our transportation company and Marshfield Police to ensure we adapt to the new start times with safety always being paramount. We will update transparently if we move to implement any changes, as our systems improve.
EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to George Bachi, current Title I Tutor at FBMS, who is this week's Educator of the Week. George was honored at this past Tuesday's staff convocation for his 50 years working in the Marshfield Public Schools. Mr. Bachi has served as both middle school and high school math teacher, among other roles, during his time in Marshfield. Mr. Bachi was honored along with over 200 teachers, ESPs, tutors, nurses, cafeteria workers, custodians, van drivers, technology staff, administrative assistants, principals, assistant principals, and central office workers and leaders, who have inspired the students of Marshfield by working in Marshfield for 15, 20, 25, 30, and above 30 years.
OPENING DAY FOR STAFF
Thank you to all the staff who participated in this past Tuesday's Convocation. The event included students from every school coming on stage to talk about their goals for the year. These amazing students also provided advice to leaders and teachers regarding how student voice can be expanded in our schools and how everyone can feel welcomed and included. Thank you, students! Staff also worked on developing their hopes for their students back in their faculty meetings.
OPENING DAY FOR STUDENTS

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released a new Individualized Education Program (IEP) form, which is being implemented this school year in all school districts.
It is important to understand that while the IEP form will look different, the special education process remains the same.
The new IEP document's intent is to support teams in developing a more personalized education plan for students receiving special education services. The new IEP form will enhance collaboration and provide clear and comprehensive documentation of your child's strengths and special education services.
We value your partnership and look forward to working together to support your child's educational needs.
For more information about the new statewide IEP form, please visit the state webpage at: https://www.doe.mass.edu/sped/improveiep/
