Monroe Memo
October, 2024
A Message From Mrs. Parduhn
Dear Monroe Families,
September has passed by so quickly!
It was wonderful to see so many families at the PTA Pancake Breakfast. Your participation makes our school community stronger.
Experiences in elementary school provide essential opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation for their future success. Regular attendance plays a key role in this. Each day in the classroom gives students the chance to reinforce what they’ve learned and continue building their knowledge as they progress through our K-12 system.
While we understand that there may be times when students need to miss school due to illness or family obligations, it is important to remember that students are allowed up to 10 excused absences each year. I’ve included a helpful document that outlines attendance guidelines for the Manitowoc Public School District:
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child’s success through consistent attendance. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Angie Parduhn, Principal
A Message From The Monroe Solutions Team
As a part of increasing learning for all students our staff is focusing their efforts not only on reading but increasing attendance, building a positive school culture, and becoming consistent with reading homework completion. We have three teams of staff who meet regularly throughout the year to create goals of success for our students.
Attendance team is working on helping to decrease the amount of tardy's in the school. The Monroe staff expects all students to be present and on time to start their day. Students can come to school as early as 8:15 AM. Breakfast is available until 8:30 AM. The students are let inside at the 8:40 AM bell. Our attendance team looked at data from last year which showed a large number of tardies. Our goal this year is to decrease the number of tardies of the students. If there is some way we can assist you to get your child here on time, please call the school office.
Cooperative Culture team is working on helping students be successful at recess. Students who are practicing "Stop and Stay Cool" will get a ticket. When the ticket tower is full they will earn an extra recess! You can help your student by reminding them to stop and stay cool at home!
The Parent and Family team is helping families to understand how to practice reading with their students and have it become a daily practice. Keep reading and bringing those Read and Respond sheets in!
A Message From Mrs. Bruckner
Hello Parents and Guardians
It has been a great start to Lifeskills this year. We are starting the year discussing friendships and how they can impact our life! At school students learn to build many friendships and sometimes that can be fun and difficult. We are talking about including, being kind and how to match effort for effort
Our 5th grade students will be attending the Kindness Retreat with Youth Frontiers on Oct 15. Here students will learn how to be "everyday heroes" by using kindness to include others, to be respectful, and to make their school a better place. Check it out here

Success For All
The Success for All literacy program has three instructional components: KinderCorner, Reading Roots, and Reading Wings. KinderCorner is a research-based, full-day kindergarten program that focuses on oral language development, reading, and literacy. Reading Roots is a literacy program for beginning readers that uses a variety of techniques to help students learn to read with the goal of developing a strong foundation for literacy. Reading Wings is a program that helps students build reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
Students in grades 1-5 are placed into Reading Roots and Reading Wings groups each quarter. We have successfully launched into these literacy groups! The students have learned how to transition to their reading classrooms and are doing amazing with all the new routines and structures. Students began building relationships with their partners, teammates, and reading teachers and are growing as readers. You should have received a letter indicating your child’s SFA reading teacher - this may be different from their grade level homeroom teacher. Your child will remain with this reading teacher until the end of the first quarter. Look for updated communication to come home when reading teachers and groups are adjusted each quarter!
As always, please reach out as any questions or concerns may arise!
