Happy New Year
Happy New Year and Welcome Back!
We hope you had time to relax and enjoy time with loved ones during Winter Break. We have made it through the halfway mark of the 2023-2024 school year!
As we embark in the new year, it is our hope that our partnership leads to great results for our scholars' academic achievement. Below are a few tips to support your scholar as they head into MOY testing in the coming weeks:
- present and on time everyday
- 20 minutes of reading every night
- completing homework packets
- attending tutoring (ENROLLED ONLY)
Attendance Matters
Attending school is a critical part of your child’s development. Daily attendance is the first step in ensuring academic success! To incentivize scholars to come to school, we are scheduling field trips!
During the week of January 27th - January 31st ECE-8th grade scholars will be able to attend field trips. Scholars will attend free museums and DC Scholars will cover the cost of buses. Therefore, we will not collect funds using PaySchools or Cash.
Here are the eligibility requirements for scholars (no exceptions):
January 6th - January 24th
- 90% student attendance : There are only 14 total days in this time period. Therefore, scholars can only miss one (1) day of school during this time (excused or unexcused).
- 7 passed ELA and MATH lessons on iReady : Lessons must be passed in both subjects to be eligible to attend.
- No Referrals : Any referral automatically excludes scholars from the trip.
Make sure your scholar is in school and on time EVERY DAY!!!

Follow Me to Class Friday!
Follow Me to Class Fridays is an opportunity for families to walk their scholar to class during morning arrival. This occurs during 8am-8:25a ONLY so that scholars will continue on with their normal schedule. Be on the lookout for a post on Dean's List with dates and time!!
Communication at DC Scholars
We are at 86%!
All family communication will happen through the DeansList app. Similar to last year with ClassDojo, school staff will share events and important information on the app via the Parent Bulletin, Messaging and Text features. Be on the lookout for your scholar's teacher updated ALL About Me with contact information.
DeansList allows us to share more information with you about your scholar's progress in school. Many of you have asked about weekly progress reports based on family feedback. The DeansList system allows you, as the parent/guardian, to view your scholar's attendance, grades, and weekly behavior. For students, it provides opportunities to reflect on their behavior and academic progress and make purchases from the school store with their points. At Open House, we shared login links for families to join. Please reach out to your scholar's teacher if you need the link. Check out the video below to help navigate the platform.
