The Reed Report 🐾
Keeping you up to date on monthly happenings at Reed School!
HELLO FROM MRS. GOLDEN
REED FAMILIES,
This month is sure to be busy with festive fun! Reed will be participating in Bernie's Book Drive to provide books to children who are in need of a library at home. We are working towards earning a building-wide movie reward by earning all of our Bulldog Bucks. Lastly, we will kick off Winter Break with a tree lighting ceremony and our classroom winter parties!
We are looking forward to another great month ahead!

IT'S TIME TO BUNDLE UP!
It is that time of year! Winter weather is here and students will continue to have the opportunity to go outside for recess, weather permitting. Please be sure to dress your child in appropriate layers for the weather (ie: coat, hat, gloves, scarf, etc). We want to make sure our students are safe and comfortable during outdoor play time.
NOTE: It's a great idea to write your child's initials or name inside their item(s) so it doesn't end up in our Lost and Found!
DECEMBER'S HOT LUNCH MENU
JOIN YOUR CHILD FOR A BIRTHDAY LUNCH!
You're Invited!
Did you know we allow an adult to come in and celebrate their student's birthday by joining them for lunch on their special day? You are welcome to bring your child's favorite lunch (ie: McDonald's, Jimmy John's, etc) to enjoy with them. If your child's birthday is over the summer or over a weekend, you can come in on a weekday during the week of your child's birthday or come in to celebrate their half birthday! While we love having our families in the building, joining your child for lunch is only allowed for birthday celebrations. Thank you for your cooperation and we hope to see you soon!
DON'T FORGET TO CALL YOUR CHILD IN AS 'ABSENT' OR 'LATE'
DID YOU KNOW?
When a student is not present at school and there hasn't been a parent phone call made, our offices will attempt to contact parents/guardians or emergency contacts listed on PowerSchool. However, if it is approximately one hour after the start of the school day and we are unsuccessful in reaching anyone about the student's whereabouts, it is our policy to contact either Lockport Police or Will County Sheriff's Dept to conduct a wellness check at the student's primary residence.
Please remember to call your child in if they should be late or absent. We appreciate your help in making sure all of our students are safe and accounted for!
NEWS FROM MRS. RIOPELL'S MUSIC CLASS
MONTHLY MUSIC UPDATE
December will be a festive month in the music room. I am anticipating the return of Elvie, the elf who has been showing up in the music room for the past few years. Among many other things, the children will be moving and listening to music from Peter Tchaikovsky’s classic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker. We will also be learning about our December Composer of the Month, Ludwig Van Beethoven.
The Third Grade Choir will be performing a concert entitled “Crazy Carols” on Tuesday, December 10 at 6:00 PM at Reed School! Choir students should meet in the Music Room no earlier than 5:45.
Reed School is excited to welcome the Oak Prairie Choirs to perform for us on December 20, along with our annual Holiday Sing-A-Long! The Third Grade Choir will also be performing a couple of their crazy carols.

As the weather cools and boots become a necessity, make sure your child has a pair of gym shoes in their backpack or locker. Gym shoes are required for physical education. We will be starting our team units in the winter months. We will begin with basketball. We focus on dribbling, passing and shooting. The last week before break we will be playing holiday theme games as well.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
