Charger Chatter
Week of 8/18/24: Clear Springs High School
And....Away We Go!
Good evening Charger Families,
What a great first week. The first week is always fun as we help new students find their classes and share the different opportunities CSHS provides.
As I was tyring to make everything "perfect" as I moved my own daughter into her 3rd "home" in 3 years (she's in college and we have gotten to move her EVERY year), I was reminded that our children get to grow through different experiences. And, though we would love to make it perfect, our children need these growth opportuntiies because that is how they develop who they are and find their own voice in situations. From the internet not working to not getting in a class, I had to laugh and tell her - it's okay, you will figure this out- and I'm here when you need me.
I share this with you because sometimes we want to make it as perfect as possible for our children and it's important to recognize that growth comes when one steps out of his/her comfort zone. So, just as my wish for my own children to grow and flourish, my wish is the same for all our children. When our students look back on this year, I want them to recognize the times they grew and learned - and, that it happened, when they stepped out of their comfort zones knowing that they have your support and the Charger community support.
Here's to a GREAT 2nd Week! Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us.
It's the Charger Way,
Mandy Scott, Ed.D.
CSHS Principal

Helping Your Student Use Lightning Lunch Productively
Year two of Lightning Lunch will start Monday (8/19/24). It is important that your Charger uses their time wisely. Each student gets 30 minutes of lunch and 30 minutes of tutorials. In order for everyone to have a safe and meaningful lunch time it is imperative that all students sign up for at minimum 3 sessions per week using the RTI scheduler app. The only exception is seniors who have 6 and 7th period off.
You can help your student make good choices by ensuring they have registered for the tutorials. While there are not many grades yet, they will be coming in very soon and it is always good to be prepared. Clubs will also be starting soon!
Please sit with your Charger and have him/her show you where he/she is going. See the steps below:
1. Log on to the student SSO portal.
2. Click the RTI Scheduler app (shown in the upper right)
3. Navigate to the week of August 19th on calendar view.
4. You should see 3 sessions selected, if you do not there will be a blue "choose a session" button to click. A list of your students available teachers will populate.
--> See the picture below for an example of what it will look like. In this example a student has one tutorial selected (Silent reading study hall) and can select another 4 using the blue "Choose a Session" button.
Extra tips:
- Have your charger check skyward grades to make the best choices for tutorials.
- Check the Lightning Lunch section in the CSHS website for tutorial schedules and lots of helpful information.
Club Opportunities
If a student is wanting to start a new club they can pick up club forms in the 1100/1200 from Ms. Huerta the pod secretary. The link provided shows all active clubs on campus and its sponsor. More information about meeting times is forthcoming with lightning lunch scheduling being finalized.

2024-2025 Cellphone and Earbud/ Headphone Policy:
As we look forward to the start of the 2024 – 2025 school year, CSHS is aligning our campus electronics policy impacting cellphones and earbuds/headphones with other CCISD high schools.
Cell phones and headphones continue to be a major distraction during the instructional period for students. While current district policy allows students to bring their cell phones to school, students at Clear Springs High School are required to put their phones and earbuds/headphones on silent and in a designated area when entering classrooms. Students are not allowed to have cell phones or earbuds/headphones out or in their pockets during instructional periods. Exceptions will be made with a medical note from a doctor and communication with the school nurse.
Chargers are expected to model Core Values at all times. By placing cell phones out of sight, our Chargers can stay actively engaged in their own learning and are demonstrating Responsibility and Respect.
For students who choose not to meet these expectations or who continue to have difficulty avoiding distraction the following consequences will occur and will start over every nine week period:
1st offense: Verbal Warning
2nd offense: Teacher will confiscate cellphone/earbuds/headphones and return at the end of the class period.
3rd offense: Phone turned into front office, $15 fee given and a parent or guardian must pick up the phone. Referral submitted to student's Assistant Principal. The district is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen equipment or devices per board policy found on page 64 in the CCISD Student Handbook.
Cell phone use in locker rooms and bathrooms is specifically prohibited, as is filming/photographing others without their consent. Failure to meet these expectations will be considered digital citizenship violations and may incur disciplinary consequences for bullying or harassment up to and including placement at DAEP or expulsion.
Please have a conversation with your student(s) to prepare them for when they come back to campus. Remember students will have access to their devices before school, during passing periods, lunch, and after school for necessary communication.
Student Schedules
Counselors are currently working to resolve any existing scheduling issues. If you need an issue resolved, please complete a Schedule Change Form and email it to your counselor as listed on the bottom of the form. The last day to turn in a schedule change request is 3PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Change requests will be considered for the following reasons:
- Student is a senior not scheduled in a course needed for graduation.
- Student has already earned credit for a course in which he/she is currently scheduled.
- Student does not have the prerequisite(s) for a class listed on his/her schedule.
- Student has previously failed a course with the same teacher.
- Student has been dismissed from a program where approval must be granted for placement.
- Student does not have a full schedule.
- Data entry error (class listed twice, free period, etc...) has occurred.
