Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Performing Arts
As I am writing this letter, I am currently on the bus to Seattle with the Symphonic Band. We are going to Seattle for a band competition, and of course, a little fun. I just want to take a minute to give a shout out to our performing arts teachers and students. I am always impressed with how well they perform, especially with the band and choir traveling for competitions. The students manage themselves very well and perform to make our school proud. And that is all due to the dedication of the teachers to their craft.
Help!
A little closer to home, we have a couple of asks of parents. This past two weeks the office has been extremely busy with parents dropping their children off late in the morning or picking them up early. We understand that appointments do come up during the day but if there is any way that you could help us out and schedule these events outside of school hours this last week we would really appreciate it. And, I know the most frustrating time is at lunch time. While it may seem like a good time to pick up your child, they can be located in many different locations and difficult to find in a timely manner. So if you absolutely have to pick them up, try to come either right before their lunch time starts or when it is over so we can just call their classroom. If you arrive after 3:30, we ask that you wait outside for the bell. Thanks for your understanding!
8th Grade Promotion
Speaking of parents coming to school, next Friday morning is our 8th grade Promotion. The event will start at 9:30 and last until about 10:45. We are expecting a big turnout and parking is very limited. So if you could carpool or walk, it would be to your advantage. We are also trying to find a way to live stream the event as well so that you could watch it from the comfort of your own home, or at least the extended family could do that.
Contraband
Finally, please have a conversation with your child about the inappropriateness of bringing water projectiles to school (i.e. squirt guns, water balloons, etc…) We have already had a few show up and not only is it disruptive, it creates a big mess for our custodians. So feel free to do some backpack and pocket searches before they leave home, it would help us tremendously.
That is it for this week. Back to being a chaperone for the band trip. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
John Ferraro

Attention 8th Grade Families
Ms. Chandler will be distributing summer Trimet bus passes for all 8th grade students. Each advisor teacher will hand them out to students the last week of school. GREAT OPPORTUNITY!
Free "Inner Peace Corps" for 8th-graders headed to High School!
2024-25 Inner Peace Corps program September to April
This free (and super fun) arts+wellness leadership experience is for high school students interested in exploring, developing, and sharing creative practices that support inner wellbeing (no art experience needed). Students will meet twice a month — once in person, once online. In addition to opportunities to connect and create, they'll have the chance to earn $$ by representing the Inner Peace Corps at events, and going into elementary schools to support younger students.
On June 2, 4-5PM, we're hosting a zoom info session for students and parents/guardians. Here's the zoom link and please fill out our interest form so we can keep you in the loop!
