Viking Weekly Parent Update

Good afternoon NWMS Vikings,

The first two weeks of school have been very successful and we are eager to kick off Week 3! This week in WIN Classes students will begin enrichment in both ELA and Math. They will need their charged Chromebook each morning for WIN so please take a moment to charge your devices each Sunday evening.

Please also go through your book bags this afternoon and make sure it is cleaned out and organized for the week. Please remove any metal objects that might combine with your Chromebook to set off the Metal Detectors at the front doors of the school.

This week we will begin marking students Tardy if they are not in homeroom by 8:30. Please make sure you are leaving your house early enough so that you are out of your car, inside the school, and in your homeroom by 8:30. Bus riders should never be marked Tardy as they are unloaded and in the building each day by the time the Tardy Bell rings.

We will pass out new One Cards on Wednesday of this week. NWMS requires students to wear their One Cards each day throughout the school day.

Please begin the habit of checking your PowerSchool account with your parents each Sunday night. Take a look at your attendance and make sure it is correct. If you have been marked Absent or Tardy and you were actually present please ask your homeroom teacher to make this correction with our Data Manager. Parents, you should receive an automated call each night that your child has been marked Absent. If you receive this automated call and your child was not absent please contact our data manager to correct our records. Please remember to send hand-written excuse notes within 3 days of your student returning to school.

Attendance Matters! Friday marked the 9th day of school and students that have missed one or more days are considered Chronically Absent. A student is Chronically Absent when they have missed 10% or more of the school year. Please be in school each day and on time. Please also do your best to limit early dismissals and schedule appointments after the school day (if possible).

Our Viking Cash Crusade has set sail and we have currently raised $1,175 of our $20,000 goal! Viking Cash Crusade is our primary fundraiser. It is a direct donation campaign where funds collected allow the PTSO to operate this school year, help fund our programs and events, as well as support staff and students in numerous ways.
