NOVEMBER PTO MEETING This Monday @ 7:00pm
Join us tomorrow! The November SMS PTO Meeting is tomorrow, Monday, November 1st in the Oak Media Center. Please remember that the SMS PTO serves BOTH Sherwood and Oak, and we would love to have parents from grade 5-8 join us. Enter OAK via the door by the main office, the media center is straight down the hall on the right.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Here at the middle school level, teachers will reach out to you if they feel as though they have a specific concern about your child that they need to bring to your attention. This is different from the elementary level where most families typically meet with the teacher on the day of Parent Teacher Conferences.
If you are scheduled to come in on Parent Teacher Conference Day, please remember that all COVID-19 protocols will be followed including masking, distancing when possible, sanitizing hands, and self-monitoring for any symptoms prior to coming to school. Thank you for your cooperation.
Book Fair Starts Tuesday!
We are so pleased to share that we are going to be able to host a Book Fair once again this year! We have consulted with our school nurses, and will be keeping kids safely distanced from one another as they browse.
Our book fair will run from November 2 until November 12, and will be open all day on Parent Conference Day.

Math Olympiad Update
The response from Sherwood students was fantastic. It is such a great reflection of our learning community that so many students are willing to take on additional math challenges. All practice tests have been graded and returned to math teachers with a cover note indicating whether or not a student is invited to join Math Olympiad. An answer key was provided to each math teacher to show strategies to solve the practice test problems.
If your student was invited to join, you will find that there is a bill for the Sherwood activity fee of $55 in your Powerschool account. Once this is paid, your student will be officially enrolled in the Math Olympiad competition. If your student choses not to join, please email cpeacock@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us and the invoice will be removed from your account.
The schedule for Math Olympiad is as follows:
Wednesday, November 10th - First meeting and practice of Olympiad procedures
Wednesday, November 17th - First contest meeting
Wednesday, December 15th - Second contest meeting
Wednesday, January 12th - Third contest meeting
Wednesday, February 16th - Fourth contest meeting
Wednesday, March 16th - Fifth contest meeting
Wednesday, April 27th - Final meeting and celebration of accomplishments
Meetings will occur from 3:00 - 3:45 pm at Sherwood. Parent pick up at 3:45 pm is required unless your student is enrolled in extended day.

After School Activities Sign Up
Registration for the Fall After School Activities Program (ASAP) will open Monday November 1st at 7:00AM. Please visit the Activities page of the Sherwood website for information about the classes, dates, and times.
- There are 6 classes to choose from including: Anime Club, 3D printing, Python for Beginners, Art Club, Extreme Sudoku, and Board Games Club.
- Classes will meet once a week after school for 6 weeks, and each class costs $40 for the 6-week session.
Please note: All registration and payment must be completed through the parent portal. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and your spot is not reserved until you have completed your payment.
SPELLING BEE Sign Ups!!!
The Spelling Bee is back! We are hosting a Spelling Bee at Sherwood and a Spelling Bee at Oak at the beginning of December. The winners of these events will go on to compete in the regional finals which could give them a chance to compete at the National Spelling Bee in DC.
The Sherwood Spelling Bee will be Friday, December 3rd from 6-9PM, and the Oak Spelling Bee will be Friday, December 10th fro. 6-9PM.
Space is limited to just 50 participants at each school. Once you've registered your student below, please send your registration fee ($20) to the SMS-PTO via Venmo (@sms-pto-1) or PayPal (sherwoodoakmiddleschool@gmail.com)

The cost is $75 per student ($50 for students whose parents help manage or appraise the team). Please note that this fee is in addition to the school activity fee which is $50 for Sherwood Middle School, $75 for Oak Middle School, and $100 for Shrewsbury High School. This fee is only required once and covers all activities for the year.

Is your child still hoping to get to Wachusett for this ski season? WELL YOU'RE IN LUCK!
While the school sponsored Ski Club still cannot run as usual this year, we do have an option for you to get up to the mountain at a reasonable cost.

The cost this year is $167 for the 6 weeks until December 1st. The program starts on January 5th and will run for 6 consecutive Wednesdays until February 9th, 2022.
The deadline to sign up is December 23, 2021 or if Wachusett closes registration early due to high volume! The earlier you sign up the better chance you have of getting a spot!

Mask Reminders On the Bus & In School
