A Note from Preschool Director, Mrs. Hafner
Our first classroom parties of the year have been truly extraordinary for our preschool children! We're truly grateful for the immense support and effort from everyone involved in making these moments so special.
There are simply no words that can adequately express our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who played a role in making these celebrations and our Trunk and Treat event a reality. It was a collective effort that showcased the incredible dedication and commitment of our community.
A special round of applause is in order for the MWF morning parents who took the initiative to organize their very own Trunk and Treat experience for their children. It was a chilly morning, but their enthusiasm and hard work shone through as they set up an impressive total of 16 TRUNKS, providing our children with a memorable and joyful experience. Now, that's what I call dedication!
Thank you all for making these moments so memorable for our preschoolers and for showcasing the true spirit of our preschool community. Your generosity, creativity, and dedication are deeply appreciated and make a significant impact on the lives of our children. We're looking forward to more wonderful moments like these in the future.

Preschool Enrollment
Many parents have expressed interest in preschool registration for the upcoming 2025-26 school year, and it's incredible how quickly it approaches! To help ease your concerns, here are our registration dates:
1. Current Preschool Families:
- Priority Registration for Preschool 3's and younger siblings will begin with a Google Doc sent out on November 6th, to be completed by November 15th.
- By no later than November 22nd, you will receive information about your child's class placement for the upcoming year at BFA.
2. Current BFA K-8 Families:
- "Intent to Enroll" for current BFA K-8 families will open on December 4th at 9:00 AM. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis with a timestamp.
- This form will close on December 11th at 9:00 p.m. and after that date any BFA families that hadn’t expressed interest at that time, will need to fill out the “Intent to Enroll” in January with the public and will lose their priority spot.
- Current BFA K-8 families will receive information about their child’s class placement or waitlist status by December 13th.
3. Public Enrollment:
- On January 8th, the "Intent to Enroll" will become available to the public at 9:00 am If any seats remain open at this point, they will be offered to the public.
4. Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program
- BFA Preschool will be renewing our application for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2025-26 school year, aiming to offer free or low-cost preschool opportunities for many of our families. Those interested in enrolling their children in BFA Preschool are required to complete an ‘Intent to Enroll’ form available on our website.
- Upon submission, if a seat is available in any of our classrooms, we will guide parents through the enrollment process both at BFA and for the UPK application. In the event that seats are not immediately available, your child will be placed on a waitlist. Should a seat become available, we will promptly notify you.
5. Who is eligible for universal preschool?
Children in Colorado can receive up to 15 hours per week of free, high-quality preschool during the year before kindergarten through the Universal Preschool Program (UPK). Some families may qualify for additional free hours based on specific criteria. However, BFA only offers the 15-hour option.
If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), their services must be provided through a District School, as BFA preschool does not receive state funding to support specialized services requiring professional staff.
For more information, visit Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program or sign up for the class.

Speaking of Clothing
Layers, Layers, Layers
IT IS TIME TO START DRESSING YOUR CHILDREN IN LAYERS AND SENDING APPROPRIATE WEATHER CLOTHING ON THESE COLD AND CHILLY DAYS. WE DON’T WANT OUR LITTLE ONES COLD WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING AND WE DO NOT HAVE EXTRA WINTER CLOTHING FOR THEM. Please talk with your child of where to find their hats and gloves in their backpack so they can easily find them.
We've received some questions about when we will be taking the children outside to enjoy the winter weather. We want to ensure the safety and comfort of our students while also making the most of this season. Here are our guidelines for winter outdoor play:
1. Temperature Threshold: Our general guideline is that we will take the children outside when the temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. We do factor in wind chill as well to make the experience comfortable and safe for everyone.
2. Dress Appropriately: It's essential that your child comes to school with the proper winter attire, which includes a winter coat, hat, and mittens. Boots are a great addition to keep feet warm and dry. If your child doesn't have boots, we kindly request that they refrain from playing in the snow, as wet and cold feet can be uncomfortable.
3. Snow Conditions: When the playground is completely covered in snow or if the snow is of the "snowsuit" variety, we will not be going outside. Managing snowsuits during our short school hours can be impractical, so we prioritize the children's learning and comfort in the classroom during such conditions.
4. Sunscreen: Please don't forget to apply sunscreen to your child before they arrive at school. If the school day extends beyond 5 hours and we plan to go outside again in the afternoon, we will reapply sunscreen to protect their skin.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to make the most of the winter season while keeping the well-being of the children in mind.

Mrs. Hafner’s Teaching Moments
Social and Emotional Learning (Preschool 3's & Pre-K):
Emotion of the Week: Surprise!
This week, we explored the feeling of surprise! We talked about how Halloween can bring both spooky scares and fun surprises. Sometimes, when we don’t know what’s coming, surprises can feel exciting—or even a little scary!
Our Pre-K 4's read Spookley the Square Pumpkin and imagined how surprising it would be to find a square pumpkin in a pumpkin patch! More importantly, we discussed the value of kindness, especially toward those who are different, as we never know when we might need a friend. Later, we read Pumpkin Soup, learning how it feels when we don’t treat friends fairly and they leave, which can make us feel worried or even scared.
Our Preschool 3's enjoyed Halloween stories full of spooky surprises and learned the "Pumpkin Man" dance!
Engineering Unit (Pre-K):
Exploring Spiders and the Science of Fear
This week, we became engineers, building spider webs and haunted houses for ghosts! We learned that when we're scared of something, the best way to handle it is to learn more about it. By understanding, it can seem a lot less scary!
We discovered fascinating facts about spiders and their important role in nature. We talked about how they’re different from insects and explored their unique characteristics. We also learned how skilled spiders are at engineering their webs, using silk to create intricate designs. Inspired by them, we tried creating our own webs with string and popsicle sticks—it was tricky, but we made some fantastic creations!
We also discussed the science of feeling scared. Our bodies help us decide when we need to “fight” or “flight” to stay safe. Finally, using unifix cubes, we crafted haunted houses for our friendly ghost figures!
Mrs. Olson’s Busy Bee Teaching Moments
This week, our Busy Bees worked on the letter "Ff" by diving into their fire packet and practiced numbers 1-10 in math. We also enjoyed having fantastic guest readers, with Avery and Cali’s mom captivating the kids with some fun books. It’s always exciting to discover new stories and hear different voices reading to us!
A huge thank you goes out to our wonderful room moms, Sara Dawson and Alyssa Freund, for organizing the amazing Halloween parties. We’re also incredibly grateful to all the parents who volunteered their time and donated items to make the parties a memorable experience. Additionally, a big shoutout to all our MWF parents who decorated their cars and braved the cold so our little ones could enjoy a special trunk-or-treat!
Thank you, everyone, for making this week unforgettable for our Busy Bees!
Mrs. Eframo’s Little Camper Teaching Moments
Our Little Campers had an exciting week exploring the colors of fall and creating their very own fall themed book. They enjoyed Halloween stories, learned the ghost alphabet song, and played a fun game where they shouted “boo!” for the missing letters.
A heartfelt thank you to Melinda Schmalzer and Sierra DiCesare for organizing such fantastic party fun for our little ones! We are also incredibly grateful to all the amazing parent volunteers who helped with the party, as well as those who donated games, food, or prizes. None of this would have been possible without your support!
And a special shoutout to the dedicated parents who braved the cold to give our MWF children an unforgettable Trunk-or-Treat experience. For many of our Little Campers, this was their first classroom party, and you truly made it magical. Thank you for going above and beyond—you all hit it out of the park!
Mrs. Eframo’s Happy Camper Pre-K Teaching Moments
This week, our Pre-K Happy Campers worked on practicing number order and had fun with the "5 Little Monkeys" rhyme to identify words that end in “-ed.” In CKLA, we explored different types of homes where people live, sparking engaging discussions!
We also had an incredible party for our Happy Campers! A huge thank you to Emma Socanski and our three fantastic parent volunteers who organized a wonderful celebration for our afternoon kids. We’re also deeply grateful to all the parents who generously donated their time and items to make the party extra special for our young learners. Your support truly makes a difference!
Thank you for helping create such memorable moments for our Pre-K Happy Campers!
