CONGRATULATIONS TO JUNIOR GUARD & JUNIOR VARSITY GUARD!
Junior Guard placed 3rd in their classification, and the JV Guard (who competes with other schools varsity guard) placed 4th in their classification. This is a GREAT start to the season and will improve as the shows get finished. The Varsity Guard will compete this coming weekend at Rowlett HS. Their performance will be at 9:30pm.

A New Year brings shades of blue on Sunday, January 29th as Music Director Eugene Migliaro Corporon and the Lone Star Wind Orchestra present Rhapsodies in Blue at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. The LSWO presents three masterpieces from the far past, not too long ago, and a brand-new innovative work which has already cemented itself as a groundbreaking composition. The Lone Star Wind Orchestra presents the multimedia experience that is Julie Giroux’s Symphony No. 6 The Blue Marble. Giroux’s new symphony is accompanied by a film screen with various videos and pictorials of what makes up our world that is Earth. The concert welcomes home DFW’s very own award-winning pianist Aaron Kurzto perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and in addition features Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades.

Chair Test 1- 16th Note Pattern from Articulation
1. Exact patterns we do in class
2. You will play with YOUR metronome (not phone) @ q=108
3. Points given for characteristic tone, even sound, even pulse and rhythm, and articulation consistency
4. You will play at your sectional on the week of January 23-27

- Everyone is required to play in one ensemble
- You have the option to play in a second ensemble within your class (Wind Ensemble) OR with your section's studio if a lesson teacher is organizing it (example- Flute Choir led by Ms. Guerra)

UIL Music and Percussion Ensemble Music Goal - Reminder
- Percussion students should be able to play correct notes and rhythms for all assigned parts at 50% performance tempo.

SERVICE AWARD
Camaraderie Level of Service 10-30 points | Excellence in Service 40+ Points
- Work 4 hours of service- Sports Concessions Stands (typically 2 hours per game), Contest or Concert setup/hosting at designated JH/HS band event. Each hour of service is worth 10 points. You may work more than 4 hours, however no more than 40 points can be obtained towards a letter jacket.
- Participate in all Band Contests during the year.
- No absence from any performance unless excused by the Band Director prior to the performance.
Note: Due to the increasing numbers of Band students wishing to letter each year, the Band Director may establish alternative means of meeting the Service requirements. Those students who cannot work in the concession stand on Tuesday or Thursday nights should check with the Band Director during football season to obtain alternate Service credit.
