The Fruit Scoop!
January 2025
Message from Mr. Fournier
It does not seem possible, but we have reached the halfway mark of the 2024-2025 school year. The academic pace will increase over the next two quarters and you will see this reflected in their independent daily work and homework. Please monitor your child’s work by checking the school folder each day to track their progress and be informed on what they are studying.
One goal for this school year is to achieve 95% Daily Attendance Rate. Please remember arriving at school on time as well as consistent attendance is critical to your child’s learning. We want our students to develop the habit of attending school on time and on a regular basis. Being in school every day will help students have a successful school year and prepare them for future academic and career experiences.

News from the Nurse
ADMINISTERING MEDICATIONS TO STUDENTS IN SCHOOL: Policy JHCD
The school district has rules about medications at school. Please do not send medication to school with your student. Ensure that you have reviewed and follow the medication policy.
In the event that no reasonable alternative exists, the parent/guardian may request in writing that medication be administered to the student during the school day. A Request for Administering Medications in School (Form JHCD-1) must be signed by the parent/guardian and the private licensed health care provider for review and approval by the school nurse. The student’s parents shall deliver any medication to be administered by school personnel to
the school in its original container and properly labelled. The parent must contact the school to make alternate arrangements if this is not possible.
Cough Drops:
This is the time of the year when noses run and throats itch a lot! The school district has rules about medications at school, including cold medicine and/or cough drops/lozenges. Cough drops are discouraged at the elementary school level due to the fact they provide a choking hazard and some cough drops contain drugs. Cough drops that contain drugs are considered over-the-counter medications and need a doctor’s order to be used in school. This is state law. Drugs will be listed under “active ingredients” on the product label. Examples of drugs in cough drops are: Menthol, Benzocaine, Dextromethorphan. If written permission from a doctor is received, cough medicine or drops will be administered under supervision as ordered. Otherwise, please, do not send cough drops or cough medicine to school with your child/children.
