A Look Into Our Panther Community
We had a great week celebrating our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week! A big shoutout to our EHMS PTO for helping make the week so special for our teachers!
EHMS students competed in the annual Nutmeg Game Show last week to win the coveted prize of a movie and popcorn in the LMC! In March, students were given the opportunity to form teams. Then, they had 2 months to read 3 Nutmeg award winning books. The reading initiative culminated on Friday with the trivia style game show, in which students were tested on their knowledge of the books. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all students who participated!
Our 6th graders had their 6th Grade Lunch Book Club on Wednesday. Keri Blanda, from our East Hampton Public Library, comes down to visit to participate in our lunch book clubs. Students were reading another story with a suspenseful ending and discussing their thoughts on what would happen next!
At Monday night's board meeting, we celebrated this year's recipients of the Connecticut Middle Level Scholar-Leader Awards. This year, Emily Rawlinson and Sean Hargreaves will be honored at the 38th annual banquet. This program is designed to give public recognition to two students in each middle level school in Connecticut who have distinguished themselves in scholarship and leadership in their school and community. Congratulations to Emily and Sean!
Positive Office Referrals
Below are students who received Positive Office Referrals for their behaviors that have exemplified our PBIS pillars of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion and Pride. Students were able to choose a reward from our menu of options like eating outside with friends, prizes or their favorite snack! Great job! Our students celebrated this week are:
6th & 7th Graders
Nicholas Bagley, Sophie Roy, Wyatt Rosenfeld
8th Graders
Aden Hilton, Jasmine Martin, Cassie Owocki
Some of our past winners were able to get rewarded with what they picked, for example, students chose to eat outside with friends or a visit from the therapy dog.
A new friend, Tucker, has newly graduated from training to be a therapy dog! He welcomes our students into school on Thursday.
In Mrs. Parsons’ Social Studies 7th grade classes, students learned about why Europeans ventured out of Europe to explore new parts of the world. As part of the unit, students engaged in a STEM activity to build a caravel, a Spanish or Portuguese fast moving ship, with straws, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, paper, and tin foil. Once their ships were built, students had a competition to see whose boat went the fasted in the “ocean”. Students did a great job working together and racing their caravels!
Our Unified Sports Team competed in a cornhole tournament at Haddam-Killingworth Middle School yesterday. Congrats to our student athletes!
