St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 11 | 27 JUNE 2024
“Lord, we acknowledge our responsibility to care for and bring healing to Country and our nation. Forgive us for the times when we have failed to do so.
Increase our capacity this NAIDOC Week to humble ourselves
and listen afresh to truly hear the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our term has very rapidly come to a conclusion. I would like to thank the staff for the extras that they have put into educating the students in what has been a long term at St Columba’s. Teaching preparation is far more than just turning up on the day to present lessons to the students. Many a weekend one will see staff at school preparing for the coming week. It is this dedication that makes for a wonderful education for our students at St Columba’s. The students have had a great term and are to be congratulated on the way that they have behaved and worked in their classrooms. They have participated in some great excursions and incursions this term, which was a terrific hit with the students.
Today we farewelled Monsignor O’Loughlin who is retiring from the position of Parish Priest at St Columba’s Parish. We farewelled Monsignor with a Prayer Service and morning tea. Many thanks to Hayley Mitchell and the P&F for contributing a farewell gift to Monsignor. The school presented him with a photo album of his involvement in school life and a bookcase for his new home. The P&F presented him with a lovely set of wine glasses, a wine decanter and a bottle of wine from 2011, the year that Monsignor became the Parish Priest at St Columba’s Parish.
Please note that this term our website has undergone a revamp and has a new look. Many thanks to Sue Griffin who is our school marketing officer and has coordinated the revamp. The result is outstanding and a credit to the work that Sue does around marketing St Columba’s Primary School.
This week, you will have received your child’s Semester 1 Report. Please keep in mind that this is only one of several ways that the teachers report on a child’s progress. It is also important to realise that if a child receives a ‘C’, that they are working at a satisfactory standard for that Learning Area and that they are meeting all the requirements for their year level.
Yesterday two of our Y6 students represented St Columba’s in the City of South Perth Speak Up Awards. The two girls were Olivia Rodgers and Darcey Hill. Both girls spoke very confidently and performed well with Darcy making it to the finals. Congratulations to both girls for their wonderful performances.
Tomorrow is free dress day in NAIDOC colours to complete the celebrations around NAIDOC Week.
Please note that the pupil free day scheduled at the start of Term 4 has been moved from Monday, 7 October to Monday, 21 October.
Students will resume school in Term 3 on Tuesday, 16 July.
Wishing everyone some well deserved R&R and a safe and enjoyable holiday.
God Bless.
Allen McMahon
Principal

Term 3
Vinnies Winter Appeal – Term 3
The Vinnies Winter Appeal is the next Catholic Charity Fundraiser the school will support.
This year Vinnies have asked us to collect warm clothing for older women such as jumpers, pants, scarves, beanies, socks etc, ensuring that all items donated are in good clean condition.
This fundraiser will run for the first 3 weeks of Term 3 (Thursday 18 July – Friday 2 August), culminating in a Pyjama Day (gold coin donation) on Friday, 2 August.
A washing basket will be distributed to all classes, and we encourage students to bring in warm clothing to donate to those who need them.
Year 6 leaders will empty the baskets at regular intervals and store the items for donation.
We thank parents in advance for their support of this charitable initiative.
