Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have lots going on at the NBC these days. Our Climate Cats meet on Wednesdays, Chess Club is under way, wrestling and basketball have started and our ski club is going on their final trip today. On top of that we have a lot of learning going on in every classroom across the building. If you have any questions about homework or grades feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
We also offer after school tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday for an hour after school. This is a great way for students to catch up on some homework or to get some help with a subject they are struggling to understand. We want to provide every opportunity we can to ensure the success of our students. These are important years for all of our students to solidify skills that they will need as they move on to high school. If your child is struggling please encourage them to stay for tutoring and get the help they need. Just contact the office to let us know your child will be attending.
We have mid-winter break coming up. Be sure to read the newsletter below for important dates. As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at perreaultj@mapsk12.org

The short video tutorial linked below demonstrates step-by-step how to log in to your PowerSchool parent portal, how to monitor progress, and set up automatic email notifications based on your own preferences. Likewise, it will show how to link multiple students to your parent account if you have more than one child enrolled in the district. Use this link to access the video: Setting Up & Using Your PowerSchool Parent Account
If you need your student(s) Access ID or Access Password, or need assistance with the site, please contact NBC's main office at 231-894-5617 or email Mrs. Kraus at: krausa@mapsk12.org
PowerSchool is a great resource for staying informed of your student's progress. We hope you will check it out!

8th Grade Tectonic Plate Models
8th graders are creating models with paper and Oreos of the sea floor spreading for their Tectonic Plates Unit in Mr. Long's science class.
6th Grade Parents Reminder about Xello
6th grade parents: be sure to check your email for a message from Xello Family so you can get connected to your student's Xello account. An invite to join the Xello Family has been sent out on 1/30. By connecting to your student's account, you will help your student earn money that will be deposited into their Kickstart to Career account. Your student will also be entered into a prize drawing being held on February 13th.
Click on the link below for more directions and information.
A friendly reminder from the NBC office staff
If you plan on picking your student up early for some reason and know ahead of time, please send your student with a note that morning and we will get them a pass to leave class and meet you at the entrance of the school for their pick up time. This decreases wait time and class interruptions.
PLEASE if your student is not going to be in school or is sick, call the office and let us know why they will not be in school. This way we can mark them with an excused absence instead of an unexcused absence. According to the NBC Middle School Handbook, parents must provide an explanation for their child's absence by no later than 10:00 am on the day of the absence or by the following day.
If we DO NOT answer the phone as we are busy with students or on another line, PLEASE leave a message for us, we will get it taken care of and/or call you back if need be as soon as we are available.
Thank you parents,
-Mrs. Halverson & Mrs. Kraus
