Lark Community,
We look forward to an exciting week! Thanks to all of the family and community members who have already pledged their support for our first Boosterthon Fun Run. We have enjoyed a wonderful week coming together as a community with a fun Boosterthon Team in a Quest where we have learned about the traits of Respect, Perseverance, Trustworthiness and Teamwork. We hope you can join in and cheer on our runners THIS TUESDAY!
Along with our fun run this week, we will also begin Fall Parent Teacher Conferences. Our shared goal is to support every student’s growth and help them thrive both academically and personally.
To make the most of your conference, spend a few minutes with your child to ask:
- What are you most proud of in school so far?
- Are there any subjects or topics you’re finding challenging?
- Who are great classmates in your learning?
- What are you most looking forward to this year?
During your conference we look forward to sharing a picture of your child's daily school experience, grade level expectations for the year, fall assessment information in reading and mathematics', academic and social/emotional goals for the year and ways we can partner. Along with time with your child's classroom teacher, our specialists look forward to seeing you, as well. If you have any specific topics you’d like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to share them ahead of the conference.
See you soon!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
As you know, we are using the Second Step program in your child’s classroom. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn. To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are also going to use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
• Recognize when bullying is happening
• Report bullying to a caring adult
• Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
• Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying
No Place For Hate Pledge
We are kicking off Bullying Prevention with our No Place for Hate pledge. Students, staff, families, and community members will have an opportunity to sign the pledge on a flower or leaf that will become a part of our No Place for Hate garden in the Lark Cafe. The pledge consists of:
1. I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
2. I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone--even if they are not like me.
3. If I see someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher.
4. Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
5. I want our school to be No Place for Hate.
Captain Compassion and Antibullying Superhero Day:
Upstanders, assemble! As part of our bullying prevention program, Captain Compassion returns with sidekick Kid Kinder to empower others to recognize, report, and refuse bullying in all its forms. Every week in October, classes will read the next edition of a new webcomic created to help kids discover and use their upstander power. Follow along and share our Captain Compassion resources to help us create safer communities by standing up to bullying together. Get ready to dress like an Antibullying Superhero on Friday, November 8!
For bullying prevention to work, everyone at school needs to be involved. Get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by letting us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if he or she is being bullied, and also give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others. If you have any questions about the Bullying Prevention Unit or the Second Step program, please reach out to Adrienne Foubert.
STUDENT SAFETY
- PETS of any kind are not allowed on school grounds. As community members, we ask your support by not bringing pets and sharing this information with others as you drop-off and pick-up your child. District Security has also been walking our school grounds with this important reminder. While you may feel your pet is safe around children, not all families feel the same. If you would like to walk your pet, please have your child meet you at the school grounds boundary, outside the fenced areas.
- The doors open for BREAKFAST daily at 7:35. Students are not supervised prior to this time, please be sure to stay with your child until the doors are opened each morning.
- For student SAFETY, using the Hug and Go Lane instead of meeting your child on the city street is a much safer choice with slower speeds within the lots. We have timed it- and you should move through the lane in under 10 minutes-a quick and easy way for a safe drop-off and pick-up.
