Broadmeadow Families,
There is a lot going on at Broadmeadow! In order to provide some clarity and brevity to this crazy time, below is a bulleted list of important things to know.
Tomorrow night is the Art Show from 6-7. You are all invited to come and visit the school to see our students’ amazing work. We are so lucky to have Karen DiCenzo as an art teacher and the care that she takes to make sure all students are represented is outstanding.
Next week is Spirit Week. Our wonderful student council members are inviting all students and teachers to participate and help strengthen our community.
Field Day is next Wednesday and it is also an Early Dismissal Day!
Last Tuesday, members of our faculty, School Council, and four fifth-graders presented to the school committee. You can check out the recording here.
Finally, at Broadmeadow, we work hard to gather important feedback from students, faculty and families to help us understand our support of our students’ learning. Currently, we are seeking feedback from families throughout the district that will help us make district-level decisions about priorities, learning progress and resource allocation. We strongly encourage you to take the time to complete the survey linked below. This information will be available to principals this summer and our faculty in the fall. If you have students in more than one school, you are able to and we ask that you complete the survey more than once. The deadline to complete the survey is this Friday, May 24.
We hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We’ll see you for the final stretch!
Do good. Be kind.
BUILDING VISITOR POLICY
- Community members who visit Broadmeadow must enter and exit through the front door. Please ring the bell to your left when you arrive. All visitors must check-in at the office and sign our visitor log.

Grade 5 Postural Screening
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts General Law Title XII Chapter 71 Section 57 requires yearly postural screening starting in Grade 5
The purpose of postural screening is threefold: 1.) to detect early signs of spinal problems that may require further medical evaluation, 2.) to provide regular monitoring, and 3.) to allow for early intervention to reduce the need for surgical remedies. Screening must be done annually in grades 5 through 9 (approximately ages 10-14). People in this age group are experiencing a time of rapid growth.
Dates to be determined after Spring Break-please discuss this requirement and determine what is best for your child. I will send a reminder email when the date for your student’s class is set.
If you prefer to opt your child out of postural screening please send me an email or a signed note to that effect. Most students have their backs checked for scoliosis at their annual physical.
If your child prefers, remember to remind your student to wear a sports bra or the like on the day of screening. It is important that the screener is able to see the entire back. Privacy is provided in the health office.
I will notify parents/guardians via letter and/or phone of any abnormal findings; keep in mind this screening is intended to supplement your child’s primary health care and is not to provide a medical diagnosis.
GRADE 4- UPDATED PHYSICAL EXAMS
Please send your student’s most recent physical to me

Jog for Joy
In 2019, Highrock MetroWest Church, located on Greendale Ave in Needham, hosted a 5K fun run in support of mental health resources for teens, and a rockin’ party to celebrate. We raised enough money to sustain Youth Mental Health First Aid courses offered locally for several years. Since then, we’ve hosted the annual jog resulting in tens of thousands of dollars being given away to organizations doing good work for our teens and their families.
Join us, Sunday, June 9th, for a classic 5K race experience we call the Jog for Joy with professional timing and a post race party with food and awards – fun for the whole family! For those who can’t make it in person, register as a virtual participant and support the cause from wherever you are!
Whether you walk, jog, roll, stroll or donate, you’ll be supporting this year’s recipient organizations: Needham Youth and Family Services and Hope Psychological Services.
Lane Lyceum
An exciting Lane Lyceum will be held at First Parish on Sunday, May 26 at 12:15pm. Three sophomores from Needham High entered their History Day project in the state competition and won first place!
