Sunscreen Policy: Just a reminder that it is the District's guideline that we do not provide or allow students to share or use another person's sunscreen, lip balm, lotion, etc., due to the potential for an allergic reaction to the active ingredients in these products. With the warm sunny days forecasted ahead, parents are encouraged to apply sunscreens at home prior to sending their child to school.

Breakfast With A Buddy
Counselor's Corner with Mr. Biolo
Hello parents,
This week begins our last stint of Life Skills with me. Your students will once again come into my Life Skills classroom weekly for a lesson. They will have Life Skills with me for the next five weeks.
Most of the life skills classes that your children have been involved in up to this point in the year have been via our Second Step curriculum. We are now finished with that curriculum and we move on to what I call “Counselor Chosen Lessons”. These are lessons that I feel are beneficial for each grade level and I find most students have a lot of fun with these lessons.
Here is a rundown of what our students were learning about this week in Life Skills:
5K and 1st grade
We are talking about what interrupting is, why we shouldn’t interrupt unless it is an emergency, and how to interrupt in a polite way.
2nd grade
We are talking about respectful friendships. We are learning about the qualities of a good friendship vs qualities we wouldn’t want in a friend. We end by watching a video on “friendship soup” and then each student gets a chance to write their own recipe for friendship soup.
3rd grade
We are learning about having a growth mindset. We talk about what a growth mindset is vs what a fixed mindset is. By showing various examples of each and talking as a class, we are learning that working hard and overcoming obstacles in our way is a far better road to success than not trying or quitting too early. We are learning that life can be challenging, but the way we think about those challenges can really help us as we work toward our goals.
4th grade
The fourth graders have a couple more career exploration lessons to learn. This week, we are talking about career clusters, which are groups of careers/jobs that use some of the same skills. We are learning about two career clusters this week. The first is the cluster of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. The second is Arts, Audio/Video, Technology and Communication. These career lessons are for exploration purposes and my hope is to get students thinking about some of the different kinds of careers that are out there.
