Families,

I hope you have had a great start to 2025! It is crazy to think that we are already about half way through the school year. I hope you all enjoyed the time over the holidays with family and hopefully found time to relax throughout all of the busyness.

We have begun our third marking period. Report cards for marking period two will be sent home Monday, January 20th. Students will also be coming home with their most recent NWEA-MAP scores from our round of testing in December before break. They did an excellent job! Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing the reports.

Our Valentine Day party will be on February 14th. We do have a half day. More information on the party will be coming home in the next few weeks.

Brian was our Spotlight Student the week before break! Brian has done extremely well with trying his best each day. He continues to be a great friend to all and is respectful to staff, students, and classroom rules! Throughout the week, we learned that Brian enjoys pizza, hanging out with friends, and watching movies! His favorite right now is Sonic!

This week's Spotlight Student was Oliver! He has done an a great job at helping those in need. He is one that is always first to stop what he is doing and help one of his peers. Oliver continues to be respectful to all staff and students. He is a great leader for his peers! Throughout the week, we learned that Oliver enjoys spending time with his family. He enjoys raising and showing cows in the fair!

Next week's Spotlight Student is Sofia! She has been coming to school each day ready to learn! She continues to always be on task, put forth great effort, and be an excellent friend to all! Way to go, Sofia! Sofia loves to play with friends, swim, and play with her dogs. She does not enjoy salad!

We have been working on finding the area of different shapes; with a large focus on rectangles. Students are working on using multiplication equations as a strategy to find the area of rectangles. Students will then work to find the area of composite shapes.

The students are close to completing our Expository unit. Our different texts focused on the essential question: How is each even in history unique? The students learned about Henry Ford and the Model T. They also read about the creation of our National Anthem. We have really focused on timelines. The students had a great time creating a timeline of the decade of their choice. Students will be working on a personal timeline that includes important dates in their lives.

Students have been reading about how the lives of Michigan's first tribes changed once they started trading with the French. We will continue to learn about the impact trading had on the area long ago and about the relationships between the British and French people in this area.

This week, we worked on reviewing answering multiplication facts to help us find the area of different rectangles. We focused on our penmanship of letters c, d, and o. Next week, we will continue to work with area.

Throughout the month, we will focus on Integrity. Students will work to learn the importance of making the right choice when on one is looking.
