Updates from our Specials Teachers
Mrs. Johns:
This month in PE we are doing a variety of activities in the weeks leading up to our holiday break. We will be doing some final skill assessments for the marking period along with parachute fun and centering ourselves with some mindfulness and yoga exercises. We will play some fun winter themed games as well! In November, we spent a lot of time practicing our underhand rolling and tossing skills, and learned the correct way to catch a ball. 2nd graders worked on using the correct form for an overhand throw and Kindergarteners worked on being able to bounce and catch a ball and to toss and catch a bean bag. I hope you all have a nice holiday season and I am excited to continue to watch your children grow and develop their physical and social skills even more in 2025!
Mrs. Jenkins:
The students are working hard to learn their songs for our holiday music program! Mark your calendars for Dec. 18. We will perform for you at the Godwin High School Auditorium! Program begins at 6, so please plan to be there and ready starting at 5:30! The students are welcome to wear holiday colors (red, white and green). We can’t wait to see you there and sing for you! If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email at jenkins@godwinschools.org.
Ms. Matelski:
Last month we discussed identifying characters and settings in a fiction text, the difference between nonfiction and fiction, and also the details of our book that we can share with someone else. During the month of December we will be discussing the plot of a fiction text. This includes the events that happen in the beginning, middle and end of a story. We will also be diving into some content knowledge lessons, with Kindergarten discussing push and pull forces, 1st grade learning about the past, present and future and 2nd grade discussing communities and how we live and work together. Our upcoming holiday breaks would be a great time to visit your local public library to check out some new books or take a look at their calendar for fun school aged events and activities happening! Happy Holidays to all!
Mrs. DuBuis:
This past month, we talked about gratitude/thankfulness. We made “I am thankful for…” keychains, I hope you had a chance to look at them! This month in December we will be learning about respect. My hope is that we can talk about respect in all aspects of our lives. Whether that is at home, at school, to our teachers, to our friends, and to our parents/guardians. I love watching your students learn through playing. It is so fun to see. Happy Holidays! I am looking forward to seeing your students in 2025!
Wolverine Winter Fest
Join us on Thursday, December 12 from 5:00-6:30 for the Wyoming Winter Fest being held at the Godwin Heights Physical Education Building in the Auxilary Gym. We will have a variety of community partners with treats, information and giveaways. There will be cookie decorating, games, t-shirt screen printing, a photo booth and more for families and students! Come join in the fun!
Help Needed
We are fortunate to receive Sack Suppers daily from Kid's Food Basket for many of our students. Volunteers from Kid's Food Basket drop off the tubs of sack suppers daily at about 1:30 p.m. We are in need of help distributing them to classrooms. We are looking for help on Monday and Thursday around 1:30 p.m. to deliver the suppers to classrooms. It typically takes about 20-30 minutes and you do need to be an approved volunteer and be able to lift the tubs in order to help out. Please contact the school office if you are available to do this or if you have more questions. Thank you!
Upcoming Fun at Wyoming Public Library
Join in the fun throughout December at the Wyoming Branch of the Kent District Library. These are all free events at the library!
December 12 - 4:00-5:00 p.m. - Christmas Crafts
December 16 - 6:00-7:00 p.m. - Meet the Sled Dogs
December 19 - 4:00-5:00 p.m. - Make a Gingerbread House
December 31 - 11:30 a.m. - Happy Noon Year Party
