ROCKLAND HIGH WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
October 25, 2024
UPDATES
Last week ended with a pep rally in advance of Homecoming Weekend. A good time was had by all. Highlights included the pep band playing, chorus students singing the National Anthem, Rockland cheer performing a spectacular routine, and fall sports senior athlete/captain recognition. Competitions included musical chairs basketball, obstacle course relay, unified soccer, and tug of war. Shoutout to Mr. Kimball for coordinating the rally, DJ Rocco Correia for emceeing, and Mr. Bergman and Mr. Piazza for coordinating the chorus and band performances.
While the homecoming game on Friday night didn't end in our favor, the team fought hard. Miss Rockland was crowned at half time. Congratulations to Savannah Milso! Thanks to Ms. Dunn and Mr. Kimball for coordinating.
The homecoming dance on Saturday night was a success. Huge thanks to student government council advisors Ms. Diver and Ms. Bartoloni for planning the event. Special shoutout to the many teacher chaperones who attended.
Rockland High School hosted an 8th Grade Open House for prospective students on Wednesday, October 23. Faculty presented curricular and extracurricular offerings and student volunteers served on a panel and led tours around the building which highlighted the school's many incredible offerings.

FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE
Many students think they can't apply for scholarships until Senior year, but that isn't true. Students and families can begin looking into financial aid and scholarships now. We hope the resources below will be helpful:

On Wednesday, a group of students attended a job fair. Students had the opportunity to interact directly with employers from area businesses. See the photos below.
FROM THE NURSE
The fall brings colder outdoor air, seasonal allergies, and cold viruses, which means runny noses and coughs. It can be difficult to distinguish between what is an allergy, and what could be COVID-19, flu, or cold symptoms. Here are suggestions to navigate through this time of year
If your student has known environmental allergies (grasses, pollen, dust, etc.), prevention of symptoms is possible by starting allergy medication in a timely manner.
If your student has a fever (100.4 or higher), ensure they do not attend school and spread the illness to others. Students may return when fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
The flu typically is characterized by sudden onset of chills, body aches, fever, and respiratory symptoms.
Coughs after a respiratory virus can linger for weeks.
COVID Tests are available through the USPS again! Please click here to order up to 4 tests per household.
Prevention through frequent hand washing, covering a cough or sneeze and flu vaccinations can reduce the risk of illness.
When in doubt, reach out to the nurse!
