Lockdown Drill Week Nov. 12-15
Oct. 29, 2024
Dear PSD families:
All Poudre School District schools will participate in Lockdown Drill Week between Nov. 12 and 15 as part of the district’s ongoing safety and security efforts. During the drill, students and staff are directed to a safe location inside the building. Exterior and interior doors, windows, and access points are closed and locked.
Schools won’t know beforehand when their school’s specific drill is set to occur during the week. At the start of a drill, school staff will announce that a lockdown drill is underway. They will emphasize that it is only a drill and that there is not an active threat to the school.
You can also expect to see a heavier-than-usual law enforcement presence at the schools when drills occur. PSD is hosting the drills in partnership with multiple law enforcement agencies. After the drill, school staff, members of PSD’s Security Department, and law enforcement officers will review how things went.
PSD follows national best practices so that drills are conducted in a manner that’s age appropriate and considers the impact of trauma. However, if your student(s) has experienced feeling stressed because of past drills, we encourage you to reach out to your school, so staff are aware and can talk with you about the ways your child may be supported. If you want to opt your child out of the lockdown drill next week, please contact your school’s front office and ask to speak with the office manager, who will assist with that process.
Information about Safety and Security in PSD is available here. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and participating in these drills together builds upon our shared culture of safety.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District

NJHS Canned Food Drive and Turkey Round Up!
Attention Vikings!
Lesher's National Junior Honor Society is leading a community effort to support the Food Bank of Larimer County this holiday season, and we need your help!
From November 11-20, bring non-perishable canned, boxed, or bagged food items (make sure they're not expired) and drop them off at the display near the front office.
The big day is November 21st, when we'll wrap up our collection and have the Turkey Roundup! On November 21st, bring in a frozen turkey, ham, chicken, or vegetarian alternative to the collection site by the bike racks. NJHS members will help load all donations for delivery to the Food Bank.
This is a great way for our Viking community to give back. Talk to your family about donating, and if you can't give food, consider making a card or sign to brighten the season for the Food Bank.
Let's make a difference together, Lesher!
Weekly Prize Winners!
Items Needed!
Do you have clothes that are too big or don’t fit your style anymore? Drop them off in the donation bin in Mr. Mayer’s room, room 12!
We’re doing this because waste is getting out of hand and what takes up a lot of room in our landfills are things that can easily be reused. These include perfectly fine clothes, water bottles, backpacks, school supplies, lunch boxes, books, and shoes. We’re looking for USED items, NOT anything new. Clothes will either be remade into new clothes, or they will be donated. Everything else is going to be donated.
Things we will take: USED clothing (shirts, sweaters, jackets, pants, shorts, etc.), water bottles, backpacks (and other reusable bags like tote bags), school supplies (markers, pencils, erasers, rulers, pencil sharpeners, etc.), books, shoes
Things we will NOT take: Anything with stains, that is ripped/torn/broken, with mold or that is contaminated in some way, or fragile items such as glasses, cups, plates, and silverware.
Thank you!

PSD Engagement Norms
In an effort to foster a culture of mutual respect, effective communication, and quality customer service, PSD has created a set of norms for staff, family/guardian, and community engagement. These norms aim to set a positive tone for interactions between staff and parents and community members, whether they happen in person, over the phone, or in writing.
The norms will be posted in all PSD schools and include expectations that:
- Calls or emails that are not emergencies will be acknowledged within three school days.
- Appointments between the parties involved will be established as a norm for addressing concerns or discussing important matters through direct communication.
- Appointments will take place as soon as reasonably possible. Adequate time is needed for preparation and research before an appointment.
- Communication will focus on collaboration and understanding – respectful language and non-confrontational behavior from all parties are expected.
- Boundaries between personal and professional life will be maintained, and sensitive matters will not be addressed in community settings.
It’s important for everyone in our schools and in our communities to feel welcome and engage in mutual respect to best serve students.
Turning Point Session for Parents, Caregivers, and Grandparents
Turning Point is hosting a one-time group for parents, caregivers, and grandparents who want to learn about substances commonly used by adolescents. The group will be offered both in-person and virtually on November 13, from 5:30-6:30 pm.
Thanks to a grant funding from the City of Fort Collins, this session is free to attend. The link for signing up is found by scanning the QR code below.
