Positive Choice at Pine Street
We are excited to share with you the rewards system we have implemented at Pine Street to encourage and celebrate positive choices. This system is designed to motivate students by recognizing their efforts and reinforcing good behavior, both academically and socially. The goal is to create an environment where students feel valued for their good decisions, while also helping them develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-discipline.
On November 26th, we celebrated students who finished the first trimester with A's and B's and no behavior referrals. The day began with an assembly where we recognized their achievements. These students were awarded a pizza certificate from Hungry Howie's, a Pine Street bracelet, and a Golden Pride Ticket to use at the school store. The students also enjoyed wearing pajamas to school, along with Hudsonville Ice Cream and a movie in the afternoon. A heartfelt thank you to Hudsonville Ice Cream and Hungry Howie's for their generous donations!
We encourage you to support this initiative at home by discussing the rewards system with your child and celebrating their positive behaviors both in school and at home.
Thank you for your continued support!
Student Technology Showcase
Our 5th Grade Media classes were given an opportunity to explore a variety of "Playgrounds" in Swift Playgrounds. They worked with Mr. Mattis to think critically, be creative, and solve problems. The goal was to choose a Pine Street student representative to attend a daylong showcase in Lansing.
Evalyn Holwerda was selected as our 5th Grade representative. On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, she will travel with the other Wayland Union Schools students to the Capitol, where she will share what she has learned with other educators, students, and members of our Michigan state government.
This is an exciting opportunity for us at Pine Street! Please celebrate Evalyn's talent with us and wish her safe travels as our Pine Street representative!
Pine Street Spelling Bee
Our Pine Street Spelling Bee is coming up in January! Any students that are interested in participating can sign up in the office and pick up a practice packet December 9-20th. The first round of Pine Street Spelling Bee is a written spelling test which will take place on January 8th. The top spellers from the first round will then compete in our Spelling Bee scheduled for January 22nd. The winner and runner up will then move on to the Allegan County Bee held in February. Good luck spellers!

ROARS Winners!
Congratulations to our October ROARS Winners!
Each month we recognize students for displaying positive behavior in their classroom and throughout Pine Street Elementary with our ROARS award, Recognizing Outstanding Achievement in Respect, Responsibility and Safety. The winners for the month of November are Lance Loomans, Ethan Arnold, Easton Conrad, AJ Winters, Campbell Bailey, Kace Kingsbury, Hunter Oswald, Izzy Graczyk, Archer Edgerly, Macie Burns, Luke Boverhof, Jamie Kingsbury, Roman House, Aubree Burmania, Aubree Usselman, and Niles Thompson.
Capturing Kids' Hearts
This month students will be learning and practicing responsibility through their Capturing Kids' Hearts Leadworthy lessons. According to CKH, responsibility is the willingness and ability to take ownership of our thoughts, words, and actions. We have a responsibility to our school, family, and community to be accountable for our choices and how they impact ourselves and others.
Reminders
Cold Weather
As the weather gets colder please remind your child to bring their cold weather gear! Unless it is significantly below freezing or raining the students will be going outside. It is highly encouraged that your child brings cold weather gear.
Daily Snack
Please remember to send a healthy snack with your student every day! Students who don't have a snack often come to the office for one and our emergency resources are quickly dwindling.
