Human Growth & Development
Dear Lake Denoon Families,
Between March 31st and April 17th, our students will engage in human growth and development lessons in their physical education classes here at school. We recognize that you know your child best and are likely also having ongoing conversations with your child about their development throughout the adolescent years. That being said, we find it a privilege to partner with you in this endeavor.
The human growth and development lessons for students in grades 5-8 are designed to help students learn about the physical, emotional, and social changes that often occur during puberty.
5th graders learn about changes their bodies undergo during adolescence including hygiene as well as personal choices and decision making. (We separate our 5th graders by gender for the lesson about their changing bodies to honor their dignity.)
6th graders learn about personal choices and decision making as well as social media and cyberbullying.
7th graders review external influences during adolescence including social media and vaping.
8th graders explore the impact of risky behaviors on their wellness.
Know that you have the option to review any curriculum resources prior to your child engaging in the lessons here at school. If you wish to do so, please reach out to Anita Sundstrom, Secondary Curriculum Director at (262) 971-1800 ext 2309 or email her at anita.sundstrom@muskegonorway.org.
You also may choose to opt your child out of one or more of the human growth and development lessons, we are happy to provide an alternative activity related to their physical education at that time. If you prefer that your child not participate in the human growth and development lessons ahead, please contact Chad Krupar, Principal, at (262) 971-1820 ext 7001 or email him at chad.krupar@muskegonorway.org.
We know these conversations related to human growth and development can be very personal to each family as well as sensitive matters for each child depending on their comfort level. Our hope is to ensure that all students have access to information related to their personal health, development, and safety as they navigate their adolescent years.
We are always available to listen, talk through your questions/concerns, and work together on a plan that works best for your child regarding the human growth and development lessons ahead. Please reach out so we can best support both you, your child, and what’s most important to you as a family.
In partnership,
Chad Krupar, Principal
John McEwing, Associate Principal

Save the Date! May 8, 2025
This year, our spring conference night has been repurposed and moved to Thursday, May 8, 2025. Students, Grades 6-8, will lead conferences with a focus on sharing their Academic & Career Planning (ACP) Portfolio. Students in 5th Grade will participate in a showcase of their work during the 2024-25 school year. These are not traditional parent-teacher conferences. Students will led the discussion with their family and there will be multiple conferences going on at one time within a room. Teachers will be present to support students but they will not be part of the whole conference. If you have an concerns about your child's academic performance, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) to set up a time to discuss your concerns prior to May 8th.
Our goal is for every student & family to be in attendance. There will be plenty more information to come this spring.

Timberwolf Study Den Sign-Up
Timberwolf Study Den is an after-school club held on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Mrs. Rappis' room from 3:05 to 4:00 PM. It provides a quiet, focused environment for students to complete homework, with the possibility of receiving additional help. Each session is supervised by two advisors, along with National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) volunteers, who are available to assist when they are familiar with the content.
Club Expectations:
- Come prepared with all necessary materials and remain in the classroom once you arrive.
- The primary goal is to focus on homework, not to socialize.
- Maintain a quiet voice (level 1).
- Show respect to all advisors (Mrs. Rappis, Mrs. Bremberger, Mrs. Gorr, and Ms. Butchart).
- Ensure you have arranged transportation and are picked up on time.
If students are interested, they should fill out this form with the date(s) they plan on attending so that advisors know how many students to expect. There's also a spot to indicate whether or not they will be looking for help with any homework. This will help us to pair up students with a teacher or older student who may know the content best.
If you have any questions regarding this club, please reach out to Nikki Kamperschroer at nicole.kamperschroer@muskegonorway.org.
