Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Ms. Maher’s kindergarten students enjoyed a virtual author visit with world renowned author Dora Przybylek in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Dora and Ms. Maher read to the children in Spanish and English. The children enjoyed two books written by Ms. Przybylek, Luisita’s Kitchen and Luisita's Travels.
Art with Ms. Mancini
On their first day in the art room, students were introduced to the classroom routines, rules, and procedures. We reviewed classroom expectations, such as being respectful to others and their artwork, and following directions. By familiarizing students with routines, rules, and procedures, the art room will become a space where creativity will flourish and students can fully engage in their artistic endeavors.
During the month of September, students and staff celebrated the 21st anniversary of The Dot book by Peter Reynolds by creating a collaborative art piece inspired by his book!
Information about Dot Day from https://www.internationaldotday.org/: International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
Chappaqua Children's Book Festival
The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival is one of the largest children’s book festivals in the country. The festival is a wonderful opportunity for people to meet the authors and illustrators of their favorite books and maybe even find new books to fall in love with. This year there are going to be about 160 authors with books for all ages.
Celebrating Our Heritage
As part of building our classroom communities, our teachers would love to learn more about your family heritage and your rich and interesting cultural heritage. We would also love to hear more about how you might like to share your family traditions with our students in school. We appreciate you taking the time to help by completing the questionnaire below. Please complete the questionnaire prior to October 4th. Thank you.
