Week of November 18, 2024
Nighthawk Families,
Congratulations to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students on a successful concert this past Friday evening! It was amazing to have a packed gym to listen to their pieces and see all the progress they have made so far this year.
Class attendance and participation are critical elements of the educational process. We will be sending home October Perfect Attendance certificates this week.
We want to reward and acknowledge those students who attend school regularly.
Each month, students with Perfect Attendance (no excused or unexcused absences) will be recognized.
At the end of each quarter, students with 2 or fewer absences (excused or unexcused) will be recognized.
If there are extenuating circumstances for your student with regards to attendance, please contact your grade level counselor for support.
Any absences, whether excused or unexcused, can have a negative impact on a student’s academic achievement. Regular attendance must be prioritized and encouraged throughout our school community.
We are so proud of the bravery demonstrated by over 130 students as they tried out for an acting/singing or tech role for this year's Spring Production of Willy Wonka, Jr! The cast list and tech list were posted this past weekend. Stay tuned for more information in late Spring so you can attend the production!
- Winter Athletic Seasons are about to begin with tryouts this week. Reference the Athletic Section below for all of the details.
- This is a reminder that students on Tracks 1, 3, and 4 have school on November 25th and 26th. There will be no school the remainder of the week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Track 1: OPM: Identifying the good in others; Tracks 3 & 4: Social Intelligence
Dear Families,
This week, Track 1 will focus on the Other People Mindset of Identifying and appreciating the good in others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths. It’s not always easy to notice people’s strengths, but it’s something we should all practice.
Often, it’s easier to blame others or focus on their mistakes, which can lead to negative feelings like jealousy or frustration. This negativity can create problems, not just for us but also for our relationships with others.
When we make an effort to see the good in people, we start to see the world in a more positive way. If we always focus on the bad, it feels like we’re surrounded by negativity, which makes us defensive and stressed. This doesn’t mean we should ignore reality or pretend everything is perfect, but we should try to understand others and recognize their good intentions. When we see the good in others, they are more likely to see the good in us.
To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below is the link to this week’s P2 for Families lessons.
This week, Tracks 3 and 4 will focus on the character strength of Social Intelligence. Social intelligence means understanding other people's thoughts and feelings and why they act the way they do.
Social intelligence helps us build good relationships by being aware of others’ emotions and behaviors. It is different from "book smarts" and grows with experience. It also allows people to connect, form friendships, and protect themselves from being taken advantage of. It also helps us read facial expressions and understand what motivates others.
