The Renton High School
Weekly Update 9.27.2024
Happy Friday, RedHawkS,
I hope this finds you well and ready for the weekend. This week has been busy, but beautiful at The Renton High School. We started the week following an amazing homecoming week which culminated in the first win for our football team and our first dance. Both of these events were exciting and spirited! We ended our week with an ASB club fair where more than 18 clubs set up tables to advertise their clubs and seek new members. When we know that students are more successful academically when they are involved in school activities, it is important for us to create opportunities for our amazing students to develop a greater sense of belonging in the school community and make new connections with peers and staff.
As you may know, Renton School District has a partnership with Providence Hospital, The Rave Foundation and The Seattle Sounders FC to provide social emotional wellness opportunities for students and staff. This year, RHS is working closely with our partners to provide access to mental health services and support. We will be infusing these important topics into our advisory model while also working to establish a wellness club, making the connection between physical health and mental health and continuing to provide access to telehealth appointments. We are thankful to our partners in this work for the health of our beloved RedHawk community.
Lastly, as I walked around the school and visited classrooms this week, I have been inspired by the student work on display, and the positive messages and art our students create posted in the halls. I have attached a couple photos to show what our students have been up to.
We hope to see your scholar tomorrow morning for Scholar Saturday (see below) and we wish you a joyful and relaxing weekend.
It's a wonderful day to be a RedHawk!

No Cell, Bell to Bell
In our effort to maximize focused learning time in our classrooms, we have implemented a No Cell, Bell to Bell policy at Renton High School. This means that all students are expected to keep their cell phones away, silent and out of sight during instructional time. While we are teaching our students how to meet this expectation, we also appreciate your support as a partner in our students' education. You can help by talking with your student about following this expectation and by not calling/texting your students during class time unless there is an emergency which requires you to connect with your student. In addition, you are always welcome to call the school if you need to get a hold of your student. We appreciate your partnership as we work to use every minute of class to focus on learning.
Consequences for being tardy
Starting next week, we will begin collecting data and assigning students to detention if/when they are tardy to class without a legitimate reason. Student tardies are tracked automatically on a weekly basis through an attendance pull from Skyward. Students who accumulate tardies will receive the following school-based consequences:
- 4 – 6 tardies: 1 day of after school detention
- 7 – 9 tardies: 2 days of after school detention
- 10+ tardies: Wednesday School detention
Please note:
Failure to serve after-school detention will result in you being assigned to Wednesday School Detention (2:15 – 4 p.m.).
If a student fails to serve Wednesday School Detention, they will be assigned to one day of RedHawk Academy (1 day of in – school intervention).
Please help us by encouraging your student(s) to build the healthy habit of getting to class on time, ready to learn.
School Meals
Please complete the Family Income Survey.
Completing the Family Income Survey will also help determine if other fees like ASB, Athletics, field trips, and IB/SAT/ACT fees can be waived as well.
