Mac High Graduation

Community Transition Program Graduation
Congratulations to the nine graduates of the Community Transition Program (CTP), (from left) Alexander Houston, Grace Camp, Jason Poulos, McKenzie Richards, Adam Verduzco-Trujillo, Caden Quincy, Olivia Bristow, Tobin Bogh and Abraham Shingledecker. Mark Your Calendar!
The first day of school for most students in the 2024-25 school year is Monday, August 26.
- High school only 9th graders have school on Monday, August 26. Sophomores, juniors and seniors begin on Tuesday, August 27.
- Middle schools 7th and 8th graders will start in the afternoon to give the 6th graders a chance to navigate around the schools in a less crowded environment.
- Pre-K First day of school for pre-K is Tuesday, August 27.

Girls Basketball Camp
The first of the summer sports camps starts next week with girls basketball! Sessions will be held at Mac High for rising 1st through 9th graders. Check your school’s Peachjar button for the flyer and/or register online here.
Summer EBT Benefit
There’s a new grocery benefits program coming this summer for households with children. Some families may already qualify and the benefit will be added to their Oregon EBT card automatically.

Family Resource Center and Grocery Outlet
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is partnering with Grocery Outlet during the month of July to raise funds for the food pantry. When shopping at the store, if you donate $5 for the food pantry, you will receive a $5 voucher toward a future purchase at the store! Last year, this program allowed the FRC to supplement donations with needed items.
Note: the FRC will operate on a reduced schedule in July. Please call 503.565.4225 before visiting. The center will be back to its regular schedule in August.
Grandhaven Visits the School Board
Fifth grade students attended the McMinnville School Board meeting this week to talk about their experiences at Outdoor School. Students spent four days and three nights at Drift Creek Camp on the Oregon coast and learned about salmon habitat, lichen, chipmunks and more. Good job, Ravens!
Construction Students at Work
This spring, Mac High Construction students got hands-on experience building an equipment shed in the shot put area of the track. Students spent their Construction class period pouring concrete, building walls, installing a roof and more. Check out a reel on the MSD Instagram feed!
Kindergarten Playdates
The first Kindergarten Playdate for registered students is coming up fast! If you have (or know of) an incoming kinder who hasn’t enrolled yet, don’t miss out. Find out how to get started here.
There will be three days this summer for new kindergartners to play on their school playgrounds, meet other students and get ready for kindergarten. The first is Thursday, June 27 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. AND 4:30 - 6 p.m.
Patton Student Wins STEM Award
Congratulations to 8th grader Chloe Phelps, who was awarded a STEM package from the Traveling Light Foundation. Because of her dedication to learning and the sciences, she was nominated for the award by her teachers and received a $500 grant of Raspberry Pi computer parts, a monitor, keyboard/mouse, two computer boards, and many accessories. Duniway Top Readers
Here is the final group of top readers for the year (from left) Justice Robinson, Logan Crawford, Karen Sandoval and Julian Reyes-Ray. These readers have checked out the most books since Spring Break and received a certificate, book mark, pencil and water bottle sticker. Congrats, Dragons!
Budget and Bargaining Update
The McMinnville School Board, with the recommendation of the MSD Budget Committee, have adopted the 2024-25 proposed budget. The final budget document will be posted next week here.
MSD and McEA bargaining teams have made a lot of progress, but did not come to an agreement in the June 4 session. Negotiations will begin again in September. Click to see a summary of the proposals and other information.

Planning for Impact
To help young people think about their local community and how they can make a difference, the City of McMinnville is offering a few projects for students.
- Elementary The city is sponsoring a fun scavenger hunt for kids to help them think about their community and introduce the idea of city planning. Find out more here.
- Rising 8th graders and older Older students are invited to apply to serve on a city committee as a youth liaison. This person is appointed by the City Council and sworn in to serve on the committee with the other committee members. They participate in the meetings and vote on recommendations to the City Council. Committees include the Affordable Housing Committee, Landscape Review Committee, Historic Landmarks Committee and more. Find more details here and apply here.
Teen Comic Workshop
The McMinnville Library is sponsoring a small workshop for rising 6th - 12th grade students on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 3 - 5 p.m. The workshop features Jonathan Hill, an award-winning cartoonist. Call the library 503.435.5562 to reserve a spot. Only 15 slots available! Find more info here.
