Six HTHS buses were packed with students as they traveled to cheer on the team. Hewitt was down early, but a few late buckets in the first quarter tied the game 12-12. Huffman went on a run early in the second quarter. The Huskies were cold from the field and the free throw line, and Huffman extended the lead to 29-19 as the teams entered the locker rooms.
Huffman started the third quarter on a roll as well. The Huskies couldn't get anything going, and the Vikings were up 23 points late in the third quarter. Morgan Kirk keyed a 6-0 Husky run to cut the lead a bit as the teams prepared for the final quarter. With 4:44 left in the game, Hewitt was still down 13 points. Coach Tonya Hunter's team continued to press and trim the lead. The Huskies got a bucket with 5.1 seconds left to get within three points. Huffman then made a pair of key free throws to ice the game.
The Huskies finished the year with a 25-4 record. They won the 7A Area 7 Regular Season Championship and the 7A Area 7 Tournament Championship. Amiya Payne led the team on Tuesday with 13 points. Game 1 HT 7 Bob Jones 2
The Huskies showed off their speed on the bases early in game 1. Hewitt took a 2-0 after one inning mostly due to patient plate appearances and heads up base running. Two Husky players scored on passed balls to open the scoring. Bob Jones battled back in the 2nd inning as they turned one hit into two runs to tie the game. The game wouldn’t stay tied for long. Jacob Bishop laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. Zach Defnall drove a runner in with a fielder’s choice to give Hewitt a 3-2 lead. Carson Skipper would extend the lead to 5-2 with a two run double later in the inning.
