All current parents and guardians of CPMS students are automatically members of the PTC. Our events, programs, school support, and enthusiasm make up this vibrant volunteer community and are indeed, POWERED BY YOU. So let's keep Cedar Park awesome!

Cedar Park's student body had some serious fun at last week's student socials, made possible by your generous 5K donation and this community's awesome volunteers.

There were several activities, including a live dj, caricature artist and a face painter, along with karaoke and iPads/board games in the library and a photo booth. A food truck was also on hand to serve up some party food for these hungry hooligans.

HUGE THANKS to CPMS teacher, Liv Cruse, and her incredible team for organizing this awesome community-building event for our students. And of course, our donors and volunteers are everyday heroes as well.

Two recent CPMS projects have been successfully funded though the generous donations of local residents & businesses through the Beaverton Education Foundation. These innovative projects and events would not be possible without the support of our community. THANK YOU to all who invest in our children and for keeping Cedar Park awesome!

BSD Middle School Band Festival

8th Grade Bridge Engineering

This school year, Cedar Park has had four successful BEF campaigns, including Music Mentors and the 8th Grade Historical Fiction Book Clubs. MASSIVE thanks to Cedar Park parent, Lianne Yarvis, for her help in writing these grant proposals.

Cedar Park's Science Expo took place on 2/1, with nine of the Science Enrichment elective classes participating. The expo covered a wide range of science and engineering topics-- including testing water quality, creating 3-D hands, building a portable charger, and creating a downspout generator.

BRAVO to all our curious & innovative young scientists out there (and to all the parents who supported them-- you know who you are!).

Ms. Farran has been hosting the Lunch Bunch which takes place a few times a month and gives students the opportunity to meet in a small group to eat lunch. The Lunch Bunch encourages social interaction and communication with their peers. The Lunch Bunch can act as a sanctuary away from the busy cafeteria for friendly conversation.

Kim Karper's 8th grade science class has been working in collaboration with the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District on a habitat restoration project. Students have been learning about native and invasive species. Hard work looks good on ya, kids!

Last month, the 6th grade science classes participated in a presentation from the OHSU Think First group which aims to educate young adults to prevent traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord damage.

Students listened to the first hand experiences of a speaker, then followed up with a quiz and presentation from a member of the Think First organization.

Yearbooks are currently on sale for $15, and order forms are available in the Library and the Main Office. Orders can also be placed online, through the Online Payment system in ParentVUE. Before purchasing, be sure and check your account (under Purchase History) to see if you bought one in August!

Your Cedar Park PTC held its February meeting last Monday, 2/11. Dr. Anderson and the PTC Board were on hand to give school & PTC updates.

Topics included:

• Cedar Park’s MYP review

• Status of the new cell phone policy

• Treasurer Report (through Dec)

• Approval of $1500 for sound equipment in cafeteria

• Approval of $5000 for white board tables for 8th grade math classrooms

CPMS’ spring book fair begins Monday, 2/25 and runs through Thursday, 2/28 in the CPMS Media Center (library). Funds provided from Scholastic book fairs go directly to purchasing additional books for our CPMS library.

Volunteer shifts begin this Friday, 2/22 and range from one to two hours in length. Two volunteers will be needed during lunch hours.

CPMS' resident theater company, Cedar Park Onstage, will be presenting a One Act Festival on Friday, 3/15 at 7pm here at CPMS. This event will include two one-act plays– Oz and The Firecracker Incident by Don Zolidis. Don't miss this exciting chance to support Cedar Park students!

Reeling from her sister's death, Beth suddenly finds herself journeying through a world suspiciously resembling the film The Wizard of Oz. The Firecracker Incident

Fourteen-year-old Joe's parents are pretty tough. First, they moved his bedroom into his little sister's closet. Then they took away his door. And then, after he just "happened" to tie one of her Barbie dolls to black cat firecrackers and exploded them in the backyard, they grounded him for the entire summer. But when his only friend breaks him out in the middle of the night, he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, which may mean the difference between life and death (via dramaticpublishing.com).

Beaverton School District will present “Vaping, Juuling and Teens: Get the Facts” on Wed, 3/20 at the ACMA Performing Arts Center, 11365 SW Center Street in Beaverton.

This community event is geared to helping parents, students and the community learn more about this issue having an impact on our schools. The panel will include a principal, doctor, school nurse, representative from Washington County Public Health and students.

All opportunities are scheduled through the mVP system.
