Hello Woodsy Owls,
Hello Woodsy Owls,
I hope this letter finds you well and filled with the same joy and excitement we experienced last week during our Dr. Seuss Reading Celebration! It was a fantastic week filled with whimsical fun and a true celebration of literacy. Our students dove into the magical world of Dr. Seuss by reading his beloved stories, painting vibrant renditions of his iconic characters, and dressing up in creative costumes inspired by his books. Laughter echoed through our halls as we embraced the playful spirit of "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," and so many more classics.
While the festivities were a delight, the heart of our celebration was a simple yet powerful message: reading matters. Research consistently shows the profound impact reading has on a child’s future. Studies have found that children who are regularly read to at home are more likely to achieve higher levels of education and income later in life. According to a study published in the journal Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, children who grow up with access to books and develop a habit of reading are significantly more likely to succeed academically and professionally.
As parents and caregivers, you play a crucial role in fostering a love of reading in your children. Reading together as a family not only strengthens your bond but also builds vocabulary, improves comprehension skills, and nurtures imagination. Whether it’s a bedtime story, a trip to the library, or a weekend reading challenge, every moment spent with a book brings your child one step closer to a brighter future.
I encourage you to continue the momentum from our Dr. Seuss celebration by creating small reading rituals at home. Let your child choose books that capture their interest, ask them questions about what they’ve read, and share your own favorite stories with them. Together, we can build a community where the love of reading thrives.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Let’s keep turning pages and opening doors to new adventures, one book at a time.
Conferences are in two weeks and very important. Please make sure you get those on. your calendar.
Have a great week.
It truly takes a village.

Bootleggers' Ball
Saturday 17 May 2025, 06:00 pm
Meadow Vista Community Center, Meadow Vista Road, Meadow Vista, CA, USA
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO COORDINATE RAFFLE GIFTS!
Last year our Auction for the Bootleggers Ball was a huge success thanks in part to the class items we received. We are hoping that the room parents and other family volunteers would like to participate again in donating an item or experience to our Auction.
I'm hoping the class parent or a parent can coordinate with the classroom teacher to create the items., either by getting people to donate a project or item, or by collecting money to create the raffle item.
Here is a list of some past items for inspiration.
Experiences - Principal for the Day, Movie Nights, Lego Party, Science Day, Paint Party
Class Items - Mosaic mirror, wheelbarrow art, owl art, kids portraits, classroom cookbook, framed art.
Parent items - photography, Starbucks basket, other parent donations
If you would like to coordinate this for your child's class, please contact the classroom teacher or the principal.
Deputy Sheriff Kevin Hills is our School Resource Officer (SRO). School resource officers "provide an on-site high visible presence to deter or identify trespassers on campus, investigate crimes related to the school population, liaison between school cooperators and the Sheriff’s Office, and service the surrounding communities by addressing public safety concerns related to the schools." https://www.placer.ca.gov/7112/Youth-and-Community-Services-Unit
Deputy Kevin Hills has been with the PCSO for 8 years and was with the LA PD for 5 years before this. A father of three kids, ages 3, 6, & 8, he is keenly aware of the need for safe and welcoming schools. He is the SRO for Sierra Hills, Weimar Hills, Alta Dutch Flat, Colfax Elementary, and Colfax High School. He has already met many of the students and hopes to be around more and more to continue meeting them and meeting their families as well. The next few weeks he won't be around much as he has vacation time and specialized training (Marine Patrol) in Southern California. After March 7th, he will be visible on campus often. I hope you get a chance to meet him and chat with him. It is great to know that we have law enforcement looking out for the continued safety of our school and especially our kids.
If you need to reach him, you can call the non-emergency PCSO's number at 530-886-5375 and leave a message for him by name. Although his availability is limited for the next three weeks, after that I know that he will promptly get in touch with you.
