November 2024
November is the month of giving thanks for all that we have. Here in Windham Central Supervisory Union, we have so much for which to be thankful. While I could go on and on about so many great things happening here in our SU, I want to take this opportunity to highlight the high quality professional development that our staff has and will continue to receive this school year. This fall we had professional learning for teachers on EL Education (our new literacy program), our new health curriculum, resilience (with our counseling staff), and safety training, using ALICE, an options-based response to crisis. Some of these training sessions were led by outside consultants and some were led by our talented staff. In each session, our staff gained knowledge and skills that will help our students be more successful, more literate, and more safe in our school buildings.

ALICE Training for WCSU
News from around the SU
This year, the schools of WCSU will be receiving training in the Option-Based safety training, ALICE. ALICE stands for Alert:Lockdown:Inform:Counter:Evacuate. This program prepares staff and students in a manner that provides more training than the model we previously used. While we hope and pray to never have to use a training like this in our schools, we’re all safer with the knowledge of how to respond. There will be more information from schools as the year progresses.

New Data Manager
This year, Mr. Samson Sherman was hired by the SU to be our data manager. I know what you’re thinking - that sounds like a boring job! Well, Mr. Sherman, a former math teacher from Colorado, is working hard to destroy that image. He’s learning our systems, learning about the needs of our students and working with IT and administration to innovate ways to improve our systems. He is driven by a curious approach and he asks great questions to get to the bottom of the challenge to solve. We’re very lucky to have him on our team.
