From the Principal.... Matt Clark
Good afternoon, Thompson families, and happy weekend!
At Thompson, we’re focused on providing your child with the best educational experience possible. One of the biggest keys to their success? Consistent attendance. When students are here every day—and on time—they’re setting themselves up for academic achievement, social growth, and future success.
Let’s face it: missing school or arriving late can create a ripple effect. Important lessons, class discussions, and activities are hard to replicate. Even a few minutes late can throw off their groove, disrupting their routine and making it tricky to catch up. Arriving on time, on the other hand, helps students kick off the day with focus, positivity, and readiness to connect with teachers and peers.
Here’s why being here matters so much:
Academic Growth: Regular attendance keeps students on track with their learning, ensuring they build the knowledge and skills to thrive.
Social Connections: Being present at school helps students build friendships, develop communication skills, and stay plugged into the school community.
Future Readiness: Building strong attendance habits now sets the stage for success in high school, college, and the workforce.
Of course, life happens! We know there are times when illness or emergencies make it impossible to get to school, and we completely understand. That said, we encourage you to prioritize attendance whenever possible and to have conversations with your child about the value of being present and on time.
Have a wonderful weekend and Roll Thunder!

Parent Pick-up and Drop-off
As the weather begins to turn, we are seeing an increase in the number of cars in our drop-off and pick-up lines. Please be advised of the following expectations when picking up or dropping off your children:
- Pull up as far as you can to help keep traffic moving
- Refrain from using your cell phone while driving
- Pull up close to the car in front of you, but do not park on the crosswalks
- Encourage your child to quickly exit the vehicle once parked.
- Students should only ever enter or exit a vehicle from the sidewalk
Thank you for your assistance in ensuring the safety of our students during arrival and dismissal.
Students Leaving Early from School
Cold and flu season is now upon us. We’re seeing an increase in the number of students going home sick, which is typical for this time of year. To help us best support your children while they are at school, we ask that you instruct your child to report to the nurse’s office when they are not feeling well. If a student is sick and not able to continue with their school day, you will receive a call from our Nurse’s Office to come and pick up your child. We have seen an uptick in the number of parents who show up to Thompson to pick up their student without notification or communication. Please instruct your child to go through the Nurse’s Office if they’re not feeling well and need to go home.
Spirit Week Next Week!
BIG SHOUT OUT to our INCREDIBLE St. Charles Community!
During the two weeks leading up to Veterans Day, TMS families so graciously donated to the Veterans Path to Hope Food Drive. The support was enormous to say the least!
On Monday, November 11th, we honored veterans in our community as part of our annual Veterans Day all school assembly. During the assembly, Mr. Chris Benedict (Veteran) from Path to Hope showed his appreciation to our TMS community and alerted us we donated over $8,000 in groceries (some of it helping to support over 200 Thanksgiving meals to Veterans throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin in need)!
This is just another example of the 'magic' of our Thompson community. We can't thank everyone enough for your support to a great cause! Finally, students from team 7-2 won our food drive competition with just over 840 items donated! All 7-2 students will receive a celebratory pizza party from TMS Administration in the near future.
