From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
We cannot encourage you enough to be in God’s Word. His Word challenges you, encourages you, and helps you grow in your faith. A simple way to be in God’s Word is by attending one of our Sunday morning Bible classes. A new season of classes kicks off this weekend. In the sanctuary, Pastor Kluth will be teaching on one of his favorite passages as we begin a series called “Bible Potluck,” where multiple Zion pastors will be teaching on some of their most beloved sections of Scripture. In the Art and Science Room, Pixie and Mike Linebrink begin a series called “The Treasure Principle,” which focuses on stewardship. Finally, in the Parlor, there is class taking a deep dive into the Apostles’ Creed. Join us for a Bible class this Sunday at 9:30 am!
In worship, we continue our series called “Better Together.” According to the Bible, we were designed for relationships – we were designed to do and be better when we’re together. But we all have relationships that, rather than making us better, make things worse. In this series, we’ll look at the key ingredients we need to make our relationships better. This weekend, we’ll talk about the key ingredient of honesty and look at how Jesus transformed the life of a man named Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10:
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
In the first century, tax collectors were infamous for being dishonest cheats. But when Zacchaeus is singled out by Jesus as a man worthy of compassion, Jesus’ love turns Zacchaeus’ dishonesty into indemnity. Have you ever been dishonest? Find out the damage dishonesty can do, the trap that it sets, and how to escape it this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

An early announcement of the Rose Parade.
2025 Theme/Float Description
Reflecting on this year's Tournament of Roses Parade theme "Best Day Ever", LHM Float Committee proudly presents, "Behold! Jesus the Savior is Born."
In St. Luke's account of the birth of Jesus, he tells about the angels who appeared to the shepherds while they were out in the fields watching over their sheep at night. The angels brought the news of the birth of Jesus and told the shepherds where and how they could find the baby.
This is why Christmas is the best day ever. It is on this day God's message of peace spoken, by the angels, comes back to our ears, "Peace on earth, good will towards those whom he favors." Any day where peace and reconciliation happen are pretty great days. Greater still is the day that God who was hidden in glory shows himself and declares peace with you. For where God declares peace, the anxious and troubled souls are calmed and find rest.
Born to set the world free, Jesus comes to us at Christmas. This year's float presented by LHM displays 2 heralding angels calling viewers to a display of the birth of Jesus and to the Church where Jesus is found. The familiar Christms tree and lights are symbolic of Jesus' birth and everlasting life. Additionally, the stained glass windows on the church will highlight other best days: Jesus' Baptism, Jesus the good Shepherd, Jeus and the children, Easter, the ascending Christ, and the returning King.
With this year's float, LHM invites you to meet or meet anew the source of hope and joy that cannot be taken away. Come, see, hear, and experience the goodness of Jesus. (For the best viewing of the parade, the Hallmark channel or RFD TV shows the parade in its entirety on cable TV. Check your local listings for time and channel.)

The Book of Genesis is no fairy tale. It depicts real people - people like us, with half-truths, crooked ways, and sore necks - but also the God Who created us and bears with us because He loves us. (Genesis 27:35-36)
