Fayetteville Awarded $10.8M Grant
For Multi-Purpose Facility Built on FPLS Campus.
Fayetteville-Perry Local Schools Receives $10.8M to Build New 20,000 sq. ft. Multi-Purpose Facility on Fayetteville Schools' Campus
The Rocket Community Wellness Center (RCWC) is the proposed Community Innovation Center Grant Project which is to be created on the existing campus of Fayetteville-Perry Local Schools. RCWC will provide a location for the extension of the school's K-12 Career Technology Education (CTE) programs; the introduction of adult-education classes; career counseling, workforce training, and transition services; a return-to-work media center; and an access point for physiological and psychological wellness services, acute care, and chronic condition management. The $10,842,473 grant will be used to construct a newly designed, 20,000 sq. ft., multi-purpose facility.
FPLS will partner with a prominent medical care provider to offer preventative care, including well-child visits, women’s healthcare, and immunizations in order to improve the overall wellness of our students, families, and community members. The facility will include an on-site lab, drive-thru pharmacy, four patient rooms, and tele-med access for remote consultation with specialists. These amenities will allow our students and their families to easily access everything from treatment of acute illnesses to chronic disease management right on Fayetteville's campus. All of these services will improve the overall health of the community and decrease absenteeism across the district.
Child Focus has committed to expand their current partnership with FPLS to provide mental and behavioral health services and supports to our students and the surrounding community. We currently house two on-site Child Focus counselors; additionally, the Rocket Community Wellness Center will allow a greater number of counselors to provide one-on-one services in the counseling rooms and utilize the multi-purpose room to offer Tier 1 Skills for Success programming and small-group interventions to meet the needs of all students.
The 1100 sq. ft. multi-purpose space will allow FPLS to expand our current Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes and programs including Business Tech, Career Connections, Family & Consumer Science, FFA, Info Tech, and Ohio Means Jobs (OMJ Seals). These classes and extracurricular programs provide career exploration opportunities and teach job-ready skills to students in grades 7-12. The space will also allow us to begin adult education and workforce services, including job-training and GED preparation, and resume and interview help; and to provide a media center with WIFI access to assist Career/College Plus students or adults completing online courses or seeking employment.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center - Division of Sports Medicine, has committed to expand their current partnership with FPLS, where they currently serve student athletes in grades 6-12 playing nineteen sports from a single, 100 sq. ft. room with a small table and three small storage cabinets. However, the new Rocket Community Wellness Center will provide 2,265 sq. ft. of space, housing multiple OT/PT beds, a private consultation area, medical storage, and a full weight room for rehabilitation of our student athletes. Additionally, Mobile Health Services with Healthsource of Ohio will be expanding their mobile vision and dental screenings to students, and the additional space will allow us to open these services to the wider community as well.
Finally, RCWC will also includes almost 9,000 sq. ft. of open Field House space providing indoor exercise and practice space for our student athletic teams and all of our Fayetteville residents and local teams (SAY Soccer, Knothole, and Southern Ohio Softball League, etc.). In addition to the Field House, this area will provide locker rooms with toilet and shower facilities and much-needed permanent public restrooms for our outdoors sporting events.
The district is extremely excited about the expanded opportunities that this grant will provide for our students, our families, and the surrounding community. This is simply another step toward fulfilling our mission of "working as partners with students, families, and community ... [providing] a challenging, stimulating, and safe environment; whereby all students can achieve the knowledge and skills required for life-long learning, living and working in a knowledge-based society." Construction will begin as soon as possible, and the project is set to be completed by December 2026.
