Our Curriculum!
The SC classes use an adapted curriculum called enCore! There are a total of 36 units, and those units are banded by grade levels. All of our classes have multiple grade levels. Due to this, some classes might use two units simultaneously. For example, a class might use a unit for kindergarten through second and a different unit for grades third through fifth. Each unit consist of an adapted fiction book and an adapted nonfiction book. It takes six weeks to complete one full unit with three weeks per book.
For more information on our wonderful curriculum please visit the link below!
What we Learned Last Week!
We have continued GAA testing. Students who are not being assessed continued working in their nonfiction units.
In social studies, we wrapped up economic understandings.
What we are Learning This Week!
In literacy, we will continue working in our fiction units. Each book has a variety of phonics built in. This changes every day. Depending on the book, the phonics could range from letter identification, letter sounds, counting syllables, or decoding words.
- Ms. Payne is using the book Life Cycle of a Butterfly.
- Mrs. Bassery is using the books Life Cycle of a Chicken and All About Water.
- Mrs. Banks is using the book Energy and Motion.
- Ms. Turnbull is using the book Telling Time.
Our third-fifth graders will continue participating in their state assessment, Georgia Alternate Assessment 2.0 (GAA)
Mrs. Banks' class does not participate in state in assessments due to their grade-levels. This week her class will work on the following:
-ELA: Action Verbs and Opinion Writing
-Math: Shapes
-Social Studies: Economic Understandings
- Science: Light and Sound
In science, Ms. Payne will be teaching exploring light and shadows. Ms. Bassery and Ms. Turnbull will be teaching about the solar system and moon phases.
