Hello Longhorn Families!
Thank you to all of the families who attended Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday night. Our next round of Parent Teacher conferences are on Thursday evening and all day Friday.
We also have Kindergarten Registration on Thursday and Friday at Longfellow. If you have a child that will be five by September 15, 2025 and will be attending Kindergarten next fall please come to register this week or call the office.
PTA is gearing up for our big fundraiser, the Carnival. Please consider signing up and volunteering for this event. Our PTA meeting will be on Zoom this Wednesday.
Finally, our One School One Book event will be March 12th. We look forward to celebrating the joys of reading at this event.

Kindergarten Registration March 6th and March 7th at Longfellow Elementary!
Do you have a child who will be turning 5 years of age on or before September 15, 2025? If so, we invite you to attend our Kindergarten Registration on either March 6th or 7th, 2025, to learn about our kindergarten program, ask any questions you may have, and register your child for the 2025-26 school year.
Date and Time: March 6, 2:10 - 7:10 pm / March 7, 7:40 am - 3:40 pm
Location: At your child’s elementary school
(To find your child’s attendance center, please use our Home School Look-Up)
Requirements at registration:
Verification of your child’s birth date
Examples include your child’s birth certificate or passport. For additional options, please contact our Educational Services Center at (319) 688-1000.Child’s immunization records
Proof of residency
Examples include a lease/rental agreement or utility bill.
Interpreters will be available at each school. Please note that registration may take up to 45 minutes. Feel free to bring your registration documents with you. Don’t worry; we can still get your child registered if you don’t have the records available.
If you are unable to register your child on March 6th or 7th, please contact your child’s school.

Rent the Celebration Rock
The purpose of the Celebration Rock is to promote school spirit at Longfellow Elementary School. Parents, caregivers, students & staff have the opportunity to “Rent the Rock” to recognize a student’s birthday, show school spirit, thank or recognize a teacher or staff member, mark congratulatory events, etc. It is a great way to spread positive messages and increase excitement in our community! 100% of the funds raised through the Celebration Rock will be used by the school or PTA for events and for school improvement for our amazing students!

Get ready to celebrate! What you need to paint a spirit rock: - 1 can of spray paint for each side - acrylic paint for the colors you need for your design - paint brushes and stencil brushes worked well - chalk to plan out the design before painting - other helpful supplies: paint stirrer, paint can opener, scissors, baby wipes for drips, paper towels-- if you want to donate extra supplies after you are done, you can leave them at the office for others.

Just drop receipts in the tub in the front entrance or send them with your student to take to the office.

Districtwide Parents Organization (DPO)
The Iowa City Districtwide Parents Organization (DPO) is an independent organization led by an executive board and composed of voting members that represent parent organizations across the district.
You are encouraged to attend DPO meetings for the following reasons:
- Connect with parents from other schools’ parent organizations
- Find out what is happening in our district directly from the school board and administration
- Learn from experts about important matters related to children and education
- Exchange ideas and gain information on local, state, and national legislative issues
