Between now and the end of marching season, the band directors STRONGLY encourage students to use time wisely. Take care of your body: sleep well, eat well, drink water. Flu season is upon us, wash your hands regularly! Don't share water bottles or drink after anyone else.

Get ahead, or get caught up, on school work and studying. DO your homework, and turn it in.

Take time for yourself, do what makes you happy....but remember that too many hours of screen time can actually add subtle stress to your mind and body, rather than help you chill out and rest.

Share your thoughts, emotions, and feelings with family, friends, teachers, and/or counselors. One of the best things you can do to relieve stress is to share how you're feeling with others. Be careful not to get stuck in negative feedback loops where you sit with others and complain - Simply sharing how you're feeling is healthy. Look for opportunities to lift other people up; taking a moment to lift up a friend can often help you feel better too.

Every mid-October, we use Nelson Field for a long evening rehearsal. Rehearsing in a stadium is a special opportunity that really helps us clean drill and music.

Homecoming (LBJ vs. Northeast HS) - Friday, Oct. 4th @ Nelson Field

This game will be our Homecoming Game! There will be the traditional Homecoming Court ceremony during halftime. Band will NOT play our show during halftime. However, we will probably play a portion of Part 3 as 'background' music while the Homecoming Court is announced. Details will be explained soon.

Middle School Band Night (Gus Garcia & Bertha Sadler Means)

Students from Gus Garcia MS and Bertha Sadler Means MS will tailgate with us in the cafeteria before joining us in the stands for 1st and 2nd quarter, and then they will watch us perform our marching show before they depart.

TMEA Region 18 Jazz Band Auditions - Wednesday, Oct. 9th

Mr. East hosts the Region Jazz Auditions here on campus. We need student and parent volunteers to help run the contest starting at 3:45 PM until about 9:30 PM. Please email ponder.east@austinisd.org if you would like to volunteer.

Jobs include:

Room monitor (7-8)

Errand runner (2)

Room-set-up (5-10)

Food prep/service (1-2) (parents only)

All-State Jazz Recording - Wednesday, Oct. 16th

5:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Students from Region 18 who advance to the recording process will record their etudes with a professional recording engineer in the jazz room. The recordings are then sent to the TMEA State Judging Panel. The All-State Jazz Bands are announced in mid-November.
