Principal Gober's Greetings
Dear Knik Families and Learning Community:
We are off to a fantastic start at Knik Elementary. Now that we have completed our third week of school, our young scholars are becoming experts on the “Knik Way” of doing things. Students are quickly learning our schoolwide “Knik KINGS” procedures and expectations, all designed to promote a respectful, positive, and safe learning environment for everyone in our school. KINGS stands for Kindness, Integrity, Nurturing, Growth mindset, and Safe. All staff explicitly teach, model, and reinforce expected KINGS positive behaviors in the classroom and all common areas on campus. August trait focus was Kindness, September trait focus is Integrity. Please ask your student(s) what KINGS stands for and how they get acknowledged for expected behavior with “Caught yas.” Parents, thank you for sending us such awesome young scholars!
Please consider attending our Annual Title 1 Meeting which will be held on Tuesday, September 24th, 8:30 am - 9:00 am in our Knik Library. We will repeat this presentation on September 25 from 6:00 to 6:30 pm in the Knik Library for parents who cannot attend the morning meeting. We will review our annual budget, needs, goals, and family engagement events and update our Knik Title 1 Family-School Compact. We hope to see you at one of our Annual Title 1 meetings on September 24th, 8:30-9:00 am, OR September 25th, 6:00 to 6:30 pm.
Please find attached the Federal Programs Title 1 Right To Know Notification: I am happy to share that Knik does not have any teachers working outside of their field of certification:
The results from the Spring 2024 AK STAR and Alaska Science administration are now available for you to view in ParentVUE if your child tested in Mat-Su in spring 2024. Directions on how to view these reports are attached as well as the Family Guide to Assessment Reports. If your child tested in another district in Alaska in spring 2024, you will need to contact the previous district for results.

It is truly a pleasure to serve the learning community that I love, Knik! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, suggestions, etc. We are always striving to grow and improve as a learning community and need your input, collaboration, and engagement. School Attendance Policy
Good attendance is directly tied closely to school and life success. We want to work with you and your students to achieve regular attendance and increase their opportunity for school success. Parents are highly encouraged to take an active role in their child's attendance and to inform the school, either by phone, email or entering it into Parent Vue when your child will be absent or tardy.
If your child will be absent for multiple days, please make arrangements with your students' teacher for make up work.
Please let us know how we can best support you and your child's attendance.
Children who do not attend school will be counted absent, either excused or unexcused. Students arriving after 9:21 am are considered tardy, excused or unexcused, depending on whether there is parent communication. Students who spend less than 3.5 hours at school, regardless of the time of arrival or dismissal, are considered half - day absent. Students who are here at school for more than 3.5 hours, regardless or arrival or dismissal time are considered present for a full day.
After 3 consecutive days absent, a telephone call will be made to the parents / guardian; a written notice will be sent home after 5 days of absences. After 9 days absent, the students' absences will be considered habitual and another written notice will be mailed home.
