Student Attendance
Term 1 Outstanding Attendance Certificates have been handed out today. Student’s whose attendance was 97% or over for the term received these certificates. It is pleasing to note that 86 students have achieved this. Another big cohort achieved 94- 96%. Additionally, students who achieved 90% attendance or higher for the term went into the draw for a $100 Prezzy Card and a Te Aroha Pools family pass. We are delighted that the whānau of Simi and Timi Popoola has won this award.
Room 1 Position
We are thrilled to announce that Miss Shay Teague has won the Permanent Room 1 position, starting Term 3. Shay is currently teaching at David Street School in Morrinsville and is a highly effective practitioner. Te Aroha is Shay’s hometown, and a bonus is that she is also a former Stanley Avenue School student! Shay will be a huge asset to our learning community and has a promising future in education ahead of her. Miss Malone and Mrs Roskam will continue the great job they are doing teaching Room 1 during Term 2.

Waka Wednesday
Some of our senior boys took Pukeko for Waka Wednesday this week. They were learning the basics of touch and having a fun time getting to know the rules of the game. Well done to all the students who took part. It looked like everyone was having lots of fun!
Room 6 - Exploring the Ocean
Throughout Terms 1 & 2 Room 6 has been exploring the ocean.
For our unit students have taken part in the Young Ocean Explorers Challenge. This had students picking up rubbish on a daily basis to see how much rubbish they could pick up over a period of time. Our goal set for us was 525 pieces of rubbish. We smashed our goal and picked up over 1,400 pieces in just 2 weeks!
Students have learnt how to undertake research to learn about a chosen sea animal and then to present it.
They have also completed a series of art work based on sea life including silhouettes, collage and learning how to draw whales. Our finale will be completing our dioramas!
Room 6 would love for you to come and visit our under the ocean display!
Matariki Lunch and open afternoon - Thursday 27th June
This year we are going to be celebrating Matariki with a lunch and open afternoon. Please save this date in your calendar and come along and join us.
More details to follow.
Hero Tips
Please communicate with your child’s teacher on HERO
Open up the app and click on the arrow beside the child that you want to communicate about and then click on Caregiver Communication on the list that dropped down.
If you send a message the student’s teacher will receive it and can reply to you. This sits in HERO then for us to go back to if needed and makes it super simple for you to contact their teacher.
You will receive a notification on your phone when there is a caregiver communication for you.
If you do not have the HERO app on your phone or are having difficulty getting this sorted please contact Di Meyler and she is happy to help.
Oxford Pie Fundraiser
It is that time of year again where you get the opportunity to stock up your fridge and/or freezer with Oxford Pies and support the school in our fundraising efforts. This year we are taking orders and money from now until Monday 17th June with the pies delivered late morning on Wednesday 26th June.
Ask friends, family, and neighbours and send in your orders and payment.
More forms are available from the school and I will put one online for you to be able to access if you need it in the holidays!
Thanks for your support!
