Message from the Superintendent: November 11, 2024
Dear PYLUSD Community,
On November 11, we honor Veterans Day—a day originally known as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I in 1918. This day serves as a reminder to recognize and thank the veterans who have bravely served to protect our freedoms.
As the son of a Vietnam Veteran, this day holds deep meaning for my family. It’s a time to reach out, remember, and honor those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
I encourage you to reach out to a veteran and express your gratitude. Talk to your children about the freedoms we enjoy and the significance of those who have fought to secure them.
Our schools honor Veterans Day through various activities, including ceremonies, letters of thanks, and patriotic reflections. On Friday, November 8, El Dorado High School hosted its 12th annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Memorial, a tribute built in 2013 by Andrew Binnings, a graduate, to honor El Dorado alumni who gave their lives in service.
Thank you to all veterans in our community and beyond for your commitment, courage, and dedication.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alex Cherniss

Putting Kids First
Every Day Counts!
As the holiday season approaches, we want to take a moment to remind you that every day matters when it comes to your child's education. Attending school regularly gives students more than just a chance to complete assignments; it provides them with invaluable face-to-face instruction and opportunities for meaningful social interactions with their peers. These interactions play a crucial role in supporting their emotional well-being and overall development.
When students miss school, they not only miss out on lessons but also fall behind in ways that require additional support through district programs and services. Our ability to offer these resources is deeply tied to the average daily attendance of all students. Together, we can ensure that every child has the best opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Learn more at www.pylusd.org/everydaycounts
