Virtual Professional Development from The DBQ Project
Addressing Virtual Instructional Challenges
The DBQ Project Approach
For years, the DBQ Project has been designing high quality content literacy lessons for social studies and English language arts. All of our lessons are inquiry-based and student-centered. As students grapple with a compelling question, they read and analyze a series of documents. Ultimately, students draw their own informed conclusions about the central question.
- Our Six-Step Method breaks down what is normally a complex process into manageable, concrete steps.
- DBQ Online includes the DBQ Project's curriculum in an interactive digital format.
Virtual Professional Development Options
DBQ Live 1.0 (Introductory Training)
This synchronous workshop via the Zoom platform includes an overview of The DBQ Project 6- Step Method. Teachers go through all the steps in a lively, interactive session ending the day with the elements of a powerful DBQ essay. Teachers are also introduced to writing supports they can use to promote strong, evidence-based writing.
DBQ Live 2.0 (Follow Up Training)
This synchronous workshop is also facilitated via the Zoom platform and occurs after classroom implementation of a DBQ Project lesson. Participants reflect on the successes and challenges of inquiry-based instruction with a focus on writing and scoring. Teachers work with the facilitator around authentic student essays to identify instructional focuses and strategies that address learning gaps and promote the development of skills.
