A Note from Mrs. Kopperud and Ms. Abreo
Dear Adventure Families,
Happy Thanksgiving! I am so grateful to work alongside each of you; the Adventure community is so very special and I feel privileged to serve as the school leader. Thank you for all of your ongoing support of our school, teachers, staff, and students. Seeing many of you at this week's Celebrate Adventure Night was so nice and reminded me that we are very fortunate to have a school community that is safe, caring, and supportive.
I hope each of your families enjoys some quiet rest and relaxation next week. I know that the holidays can sometimes bring extra stress, so please reach out if your family needs any extra resources. Mapleton also has some online resources available here, should you need them.
Saludos,
Sarah Kopperud

Movie Night
Adventure's Student Council is sponsoring a winter-themed Movie Night on Thursday, December 12 at 5pm. Tickets cost $5 and also get you a soda and popcorn. Pizza and other treats will be available for sale as well. Students can buy tickets from 12/3 to 12/9. Purchased tickets will go home with students on December 11.
Strengthening Speaking Skills Supports Strong Literacy!
Your Adventure Elementary Dual Language Committee, which consists of eight teachers across grade levels and content, has been hard at work planning information nights for our PK-2nd grade families. Our first Dual Language Parent Information Night was unfortunately canceled due to weather, but we are excited to invite you to more Dual Language nights in the spring!
The topic of our first information night was the importance of developing oral language at home in the student’s dominant language. A student’s oral language, or the words that they are able to express through speaking, is the foundation for their reading skills. Strong reading skills in their dominant language will assist the student in developing strong reading skills in their second language. Ways in which families can help develop their child’s oral language skills at home is by reading to them, singing with them and teaching them nursery rhymes, as well as playing games like “I Spy” or “Simon Says.” Adults can also encourage their child to answer them in complete sentences and maintain eye contact when speaking to an adult. Engaging in these activities at home will help increase your child’s vocabulary and their ability to participate in conversations, which will serve them well as they master language skills in English and Spanish.
K-2 Music Program
Adventure's kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders will perform in a music program on Monday, December 16 at 1pm. The concert will be held at the Mapleton Arts Center on the Global campus, just down the street from Adventure. Parents and families are invited to attend!
The Global campus is very busy, so please allow time to park and get seated in the theater. The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Also, please be sure to park legally and avoid blocking any bus lanes.
Attendance Reminders
As we prepare to take time off from school 11/23-12/1 for the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families.
Please take steps to keep your child healthy and send them to school unless they are truly sick. Every day of school is an opportunity for students to connect to peers and their teachers, and to develop personally, socially and academically.
We thank:
· Our students and their families who do their best to show up to school regularly even when it isn’t easy.
· Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment.
· Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we are healthy and safe, feel a sense of community and experience the excitement of an engaging learning environment.
· Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
May these days off be restful and healing.
● If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to Marisa Abreo for help.
● We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on Monday 12/2/2024.
Thank you for partnering with us!
School Dismissal Reminders
Our K-6 classes dismiss at 3:10. Please make sure your child understands the dismissal plan before they go to school each day, especially clarifying if they're attending an after-school club. Teachers also appreciate notice about dismissal changes at least the day prior. We understand that last minute changes may happen occasionally, and in that case please call the front office no later than 2:00. Teachers are unable to check Talking Points during the instructional day and may not see messages about a dismissal change in a timely manner. The front office will no longer communicate any dismissal changes after this time. The front office is very busy in the last hour of the day and we are not able to effectively communicate last minute changes to the right staff members without sufficient notice as staff are teaching.
Lastly, please assure that your child is picked up on time. School staff are not able to supervise students after 3:20.
Extracurricular Clubs Update
From Ms. Xochitl Ruiz, CCLC Grant Coordinator
Thank you all so much for all your support with our clubs! I am so thankful for each of your students for being engaged in our clubs! I hope they are enjoying the programs. I have received messages from some parents asking if students can still join clubs. At this time, we are no longer allowing students to join clubs as they are full, as we are close to our last day of clubs for the semester, which is December 19.
BUT ... Keep an eye out in December as we will be sending out registration information for the new clubs that will be available beginning in January!
Thank you all again. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the break!
As always, reach out to Xochi for more information: RuizX@mapleton.us or 303-853-1445.
