As we prepare for an exciting new school year at Jackson Heights Jr/Sr High School, we are ready to embrace fresh faces, groundbreaking programs, and innovative ideas that promise to make this year truly special.

To keep everyone updated, we are launching a weekly newsletter. This will showcase the remarkable events happening in our school and spotlight exceptional students, dedicated staff, and community members who contribute significantly.

We are delighted to welcome Sean Moore as our new band director. He brings creativity and enthusiasm to our music department, and the prospect of a future marching band is becoming a reality under his leadership.

Joining us this semester is Rebecca Craig, a student teacher from Emporia State University. She will be collaborating with Mr. Plattner in teaching Social Studies, and we are committed to making her experience here exceptional.

As the new Jr/Sr High School Principal, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the teachers, staff, community, and students for the warm welcome. Although I have only been here a few weeks, I can already see the team's dedication and innovative ideas to ensure student success this year. Together, we will make a positive impact.

Mr. Andrews figured out that this year will be his 50th first day of school in a row. 50 years ago, he had his first day of kindergarten and he never stopped having first days ever since.

We will let you do the calculations on his age yourself, but look at that sharp dressed man.

To accommodate activities as well as SEL needs, we will be going with an alternating schedule this year. Seminars will be Tuesdays and Thursdays which will help us have our non academic club meetings.

The Staff got back together Friday to start out inservice and training for the upcoming year. We had some fun and exciting activities to help with training that ranged from a mindful approach to learning suicide prevention to a very "artistic" rendition of little teapot as performed by some of the high school staff. Make sure to ask Mr. Keehn about the itsy bitsy spider.

Big new thing in lunch this year, that isn't actually new but will feel new after two years, is that lunches as well as breakfast are no longer free. In line with this we will be using student id scan cards this year. Just like they wont give you that whopper at burger king without paying with a credit card, you will not be getting lunch or breakfast without having your id scanned. Each student has a laminated card that has been placed in their lockers. You will want to get this in order to eat breakfast that first day.

It is highly encouraged that students take an in focus picture of this card. This barcode can be scanned on a phone screen. This will be important because if a card is lost/stolen, you will be given one free replacement, afterward a fee will be assessed on your student account.
