August 2024
The Principal's Corner
The start of the school year has been absolutely amazing! All of our new kindergarten students are practicing walking in the hallways and making new friends. I think each one of them views recess as the highlight of the day. All of our new Cougars have been paired up with a friend in class to transition into our school. Teachers have invested time in routines, procedures and our Cougars are meeting those expectations. Time was invested in building relationships and classroom community. Now, we are building on that foundation and slowly getting into instruction and learning.
Please make plans to be at our Cougar Success Nights next week! This is a parent only event, please no students. Space is limited.
What is Cougar Success Night?
Items to be addressed:
-Curriculum/homework/procedures/field trips (grade level fees)
-General FAQ’s
-Suggestions to increase your child’s success in school
-It is scheduled to last about 30 minutes
We have an exciting event coming up during the month of August. Peter Piper Pizza Back-to-School night will be August 9th.
Thank you for your patience at dismissal with parent pick-up and Garden Gate for walk-up parents. Please remember that you need to remain in your car for our car pick-up (and AM drop-off) option and wait for your child(ren) to be called. If your child needs extra assistance getting out of your car or getting into the car please pull into a parking spot. The entire line of people behind you will be extremely grateful. Make sure your student knows how they are getting home consistently. Here is the list for your reference:
- Parent pick-up (car riders)
- Garden gate (parent walk-up or walkers)
- Back gate (for neighborhood walkers/bike riders)
- Bus
Our first fire drill is coming up and our first lockdown drill is on August 13th. I will send an email after the lockdown drill as a reminder to talk about it when your student arrives home.
Canyon Rim spirit shirt day is every Friday, now you can plan the laundry schedule accordingly. We don't have this year's awesome PTA provided shirts yet, but anything black or purple will suffice. The kids know I'm consistent with a CRE shirt and some cool shoes.
Our first Pep Assembly was today and our gym was filled with positive energy. The picture below is roughly 900+ kids being silent and showing Cougar Pride.
Looking forward to a fantastic year!

A Message From GPS (for bus riders)
We are excited to continue the use of student ID badges PK-12 in Gilbert Public Schools. One issue we are experiencing is students forgetting their badges when they are using the school bus to get to and from school. Bus riders use the barcode on their ID badge for getting on and off the bus and it is essential that they have their student ID badge with them to ride the bus.
This email is a friendly reminder for our bus riders and their families that Student ID Badges are required to ride the bus to and from school every day.
To support our students in remembering this at the beginning of this school year we will be actively reminding our students and families and will be implementing the following:
Please note, after the first few weeks of the new school year, when students all have their badges, if a student does not have their Student ID Badge when getting on the bus to return home from campus at the end of the day they will not be able to ride the bus. They will instead need to be picked up from the school office by an approved parent or guardian.
Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts. Please work with your students to ensure they bring their ID badge with them to school every day.
Here Comes the Bus App
We are also excited to remind you of ‘Here Comes the Bus’, a service for our families whose students ride the school bus.
With ‘Here Comes the Bus’ parents can:
View the real-time location of their student’s school bus
Ensure their student gets to the bus stop at the right time, every time
Know when and where their child boards or exits the bus - Students ID badges are scanned when they board and exit the school bus.
New Skip Ride Feature on Here Comes the Bus
Please check out the new Skip Ride feature on the Here Comes the Bus App that allows parents to cancel a bus ride with the click of a button.
Parents can easily download the ‘Here Comes the Bus’ app. Once downloaded select whether you would like email, push notifications or both, regarding your student’s school bus. You can also select what you would like to be notified of.
Thank you in advance for your support of these important safety initiatives in our schools.
Don't Forget to Report your Students Absence!
There is a new and improved way for our parents and guardians to report student absences. This new feature is quick and easy to use and can be accessed through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal or through your Infinite Campus app. Simply log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and click on the ‘Submit Absence Requests’ graphic.
Please note you will still be able to call in and leave a message on our school’s attendance phone line if you would prefer. For more information on how to log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and use this new feature please visit www.gilbertschools.net/IC.

PTA News
Welcome Back Canyon Rim Families!
The PTA is excited for the 2024-25 school year as our new board has lots of new plans! First off my name is Bonni Beveridge and I'm your new PTA president this year, I've been VP the last two years and I currently have 4th grade and 1st grade students. Our board is bigger and better than ever with new and returning volunteers but we are also looking for more collaboration with all of you! We'll be creating committees for all of our events well in advance and we need your help planning and executing each exciting and fun event. We are also still open to any business sponsor memberships and it's never too late to sign up for individual and family memberships as well. We are having a membership drive classroom challenge through August 9th, the class with the highest percentage of members will win a popcorn party and a teacher duty coverage! Check out our new website at www.canyonrimpta.org for all the links and details you will need throughout the year and join the PTA to get all of our info sent directly to your inbox including volunteer sign ups, reminders, meeting agendas, etc.
We are very proud to be once again providing FREE SPIRIT SHIRTS to every student and staff member this year! Don't forget to have the kids wear them on Fridays as well as assembly days and some field trips, it provides a great sense of community and school pride. They will be distributed to classrooms in a few weeks and after that we will have additional youth and adult shirts available for purchase. We are also bringing back Kona Ice days with an easier Annual Pass available, you only have to sign up once for the entire year and you get one month free, no more last minute late night scrambles for the code! Sign up now or before our first Kona day on August 14th. As a reminder we always have sugar free and dye free flavors available to anyone who prefers a more healthy option, they are not just for allergies.
We are looking forward to our August events starting with Monday August 5th when we'll be in the front of the school for a Meet the PTA coffee chat from 7:45-8:05 am. Stop by, grab a cup of coffee and chat with us about all things PTA! We will have our new magnets with our Linktree QR code, they're great to keep on the refrigerator or calendar board for quick and easy access to dates, links, Kona codes, etc. Get one free if you sign up that morning! Friday August 9th is our annual Peter Piper Pizza Back to School Bash from 4-8pm, it is always a fun student favorite. Our August meeting is Thursday August 15th at 5:30pm in the library. Join us to help make plans, get involved and decide how we spend our funds for the students, staff and school.
Your Canyon Rim PTA is looking forward to having a great, fun and productive school year together. Connect with us anytime through our website, emails and be sure to follow our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. Thank you for all of your support!!

Bonni Beveridge
