Principal Message
Thank you to all who helped support our Adventure Dash Fundraiser. We were thankful for the great weather. We raised over $50,000 and earned over $28,000.
Thank you to those families who came out to the Math Family Night. It was a night filled with exciting learning opportunities and a time for us to get to visit with families.
Winter Celebrations are Dec. 20th. Our staff and students are asked to wear pajamas to school.
We would also like to remind you that our Winter Break officially begins Monday, December 23rd and classes will resume on January 7th. The staff at Gleason wishes you and your family a happy, safe and restful holiday.
We would like to congratulate Kenny Ho on winning our Annual Spelling Bee. He will represent Gleason on January 28th at the Berry Center. Tuong Nguyen, our runner up will represent Gleason in the event Kenny is not able to make it.

Monthly Character Traits
(Gleason will introduce the trait the first Wednesday of each month)
December: Empathy
During these months, the easiest way to demonstrate empathy is by having discussions about how the holiday season can bring different feelings to those less fortunate. Less fortunate can mean financially, different family dynamics and/or living situations. As a family, come up with ideas on how you can show empathy. It may be by donating time (working at a food bank, spending time with residents at a nursing home or donating toys to an animal shelter), donating non-perishable food, toys or gently used clothing. Remember to have the discussions to help your child understand the importance of empathy.
Counselor's Corner
Tip 1: Compassion: Show concern for each other. Be willing to help each other.
Children need to know it’s okay to politely tell someone to stop doing a behavior that they do not like to themselves or to someone else.
I encourage you to role play with your child and encourage this communication between siblings. This will help your child feel confident that they can solve their own problems.
Look at the person
Politely, say I do not like it when you _______, please stop.
The other child, say “okay” and stop.
Tip 2: Aware
Children also need to know or be aware when another person needs their help and when they don’t.
Tip 3: Report
These are the three rules that are part of next month’s anti-victim lesson that are very important as we gather around others outside our immediate family.
Tip 4: Encouragement
After a situation occurs, children need reassurance. At school, it’s from their friends, classmates and staff members. It’s important to continue to support one another.
Next month, I will be visiting students to present the Anti-Victimization lessons. On Monday, December 2nd, you received a School Messenger with a link to opt-in on the Anti-Victimization lessons. These lessons will be presented by me and are age appropriate. I will be using the WHO Program: We Help Ourselves. Click here (español) to see an overview of the program and topics for your child’s grade level. We discuss what we could do in these situations. There are three ways in which WHO teaches children how We Help Ourselves:
Know the rules you and your family have decided on for safety.
Do have a plan for assertive, positive action
Tell someone you trust for help—it’s important to tell someone about situations that are uncomfortable.

A Note From The Nurse...Mrs. Nguyen
Please remember to pack a spare set of clothes (socks and underwear) in case of bathroom accidents or drink spills. PreK and K should have several sets. Borrowed clothes should be returned clean to clinic as soon as possible since we are running very low.
The clinic no longer has any boy's underwear, parents should be expecting a call from the clinic to bring clothes if the student does not have a spare change of clothes with them.
We are looking for gently used girls/boys shorts and new girls/boys underwear donations (size Small-Medium/6-8). Thank you so much!
A Note From The Librarian...Mrs. Mann
Thank you to all of the families who participated in our book character pumpkin event in the library. We loved your creativity as you brought your book character to life. Thank you for taking the time to celebrate reading with your child.
