WELCOME BACK GATORS!
Greetings Parents, Teachers, and Stakeholders,
Welcome to Myers Middle School, "Where Excellence is Expected Because We Put Students First"! It is with great excitement I welcome you to Myers Middle School. Like all years, we expect greatness from our students and parents this year. We also expect to provide excellent customer service from our educators and staff members. Thank you in advance to all stakeholders for your hard work and dedication I know you will give this school year.
We will always do what is best for our staff, students, and parents by putting students first. At Myers, we offer various clubs, organizations, and evening options for students to engage fully. We expect excellence from students and staff members. Your commitment to public education will help ensure Myer's students are successful. If there are ever any concerns or questions, please call me. I am here to support you and your child. If your child fails, then WE fail. Every child needs a village, and WE (parents, teachers, administrators, stakeholders) are a part of that village. This is one reason every staff member has a mentee, and every administrator has a mentor group.
I have been in education for over 22 years, 18 as an administrator. I know what it takes to be a successful student, parent, teacher, and leader. As a student, I understood the value of education. As a math teacher, I had some of the highest scores in the state. As a single parent, my child was able to graduate college debt free and is currently having a successful graduate year playing college basketball. As a leader, I was able to lead some of the best educators in the state of Georgia.
Our staff members are committed to students, and I am honored to help lead Myers to greatness. Building relationships are critical to a thriving culture of learning. Please try to attend multiple PTSA, School Council, Sporting, and Band events. We will also have community service opportunities, monthly college tours, and evening programs that can help strengthen your child's relationships with all stakeholders.
Again, I am proud to be a part of the best middle school in Savannah, GA.
Continue to do great things while inspiring others to do the same.
Educationally,
Dr. Marcus Scott, IV EdD

8TH GRADE: TEAM SPELMAN
In Georgie Studies, we left Fall Semester about two months (and two units) behind due to slowing down the curriculum to maximize student understanding, so we’re going to try to hit the gas at the start of Spring Semester to catch up. A few of our main barriers to progress are (1) reading comprehension and (2) motivation. This class heavily relies on students’ ability to comprehend the texts we interact with—not them being able to read words on a page, but them being able to analyze, discuss, and write about the information. It also is hard to get ahead if students don’t have motivation to be disciplined in completing their work, paying attention, and resubmitting missed assignments. Please have a talk with your child about doing the best for their success.
In Math we will be moving into Unit 4 where students will explore incorporating patterning and algebraic reasoning to create, interpret, solve, and graph linear equations and inequalities in one variable. Students will interpret expressions with multiple factors and/or terms and manipulate linear and literal equations expressed in various forms.
In Science, we will be converting invisible forces, electricity, and magnetism.
Our student of the month is Khristal Harris. Khristal is a very driven student who hard to also strive for the best from herself. If she can improve she will never shy away from the hard work she will need to do to get there.

Happy New Year!!!
In Mrs. Hill’s science class, we will... -Journey into the world of Invisible Forces to begin Unit 3 in our Physical Science classes! -Journey into Electricity, Magnetism, and Energy to continue Unit 3 in our Advanced Physical Science classes!
In Mr. Reynold’s math classes, here are some insights into what your 8th grader will be learning over the coming months. In this current unit, we're focusing on the exciting world of "Systems of Equations." In 8th grade math, your child will explore the following key topics:
1. Graph Solutions to Systems of Linear Equations
2. Solving Systems with Tape Diagrams
3. Applying the substitution method for solving a system of equations
4. Exploring solutions for systems
5. Enhanced Algebra students will be focusing on Systems of Linear Inequalities.
Here are some ways you can help your child succeed in this unit:
1. Engage in Discussion: Ask your child about what they've learned in class. Encourage them to explain concepts to you; this reinforces their understanding.
2. Encourage regular practice with problems and equations. The more they practice, the more confident they become.
3. Maintain open communication with teachers to track your child's progress and address any concerns.
In Mrs. Rivers GA Studies social studies class, students will explore the era after the Civil War known as the “Reconstruction,” where the South began to rebuild infrastructures that were destroyed in the Civil War, along with political restoration. Students will understand the impact of the 13-15th amendments, the key features of the Reconstruction plans to allow the South back into the Union, and the effects of sharecropping and tenant farming on African-Americans.
Also, we test weekly in social studies and students should be reminded to study their notes to prepare for tests. Students who need additional help understanding the lesson should stay for tutorial on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-3:45pm.
Our student of the month is John'Asia Rhodes. John'Asia is a pleasure to have in class, and she works hard to maintain passing grades in each course.
