English Village Family Edition

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Greetings, EV Families! Wow, what a week! As you all know, this is such a busy time of the year. There is so much going on as we try to “fit it all in.”
It is easy to get caught up in the tough stuff and daily challenges. It is clear that students are ready for Summer Break while adults are too.
We want to take a moment to highlight some of the good things that happened this week. Things that are so important and give us such a sense of pride…
The birth of Henry Thomas, Mrs. Scalia’s baby!
Our 2nd Grade Glow Up Party
The way that you all were patient and flexible with dismissal on Friday as we had numerous late buses, a very high volume of cars in the car loop and a car broken down in the entrance off of Killarney Dr.
Our PTA Carnival
These are just a few of the wonderful things that occurred this week. They confirm to us that you all are dedicated, passionate, caring and child-centered. These things brought a lot of joy to our learning community.
From the joy on Mrs. Scalia’s face due to the birth of her baby to the joy on the faces of our students and you all at our Glow Up Party and PTA Carnival to the joy it gave us to see everyone come together and rock a very challenging dismissal!!!
This confirms for us that EV is truly a special place with an incredible staff, students and their families who work wonders for kids! Thank you very much! We truly appreciate you all! EV-The place to be!
SIT (School Improvement Team) Update:
We had a SIT meeting this past week and discussed the following topics: Leader in Me work for next school year, who our 2025 SIT reps will be, staffing updates, Summer Tutoring and professional learning moving forward. We also checked in on our work for our SIP for the 2025-26 school year. Please stay tuned for updates on all of these things soon...
Sincerely,
Jason Lewis

English Village Field Day Volunteers Needed
Dear English Village Guardians,
We are excited to announce that Field Day is just around the corner, and we are in need of enthusiastic volunteers to help make this day a huge success for our students!
Field Day will take place on June 18th at English Village. This event is a highlight of the school year, filled with fun activities and games for all students to enjoy. However, we cannot make it happen without the support of dedicated volunteers like you!
This year will look a little different for volunteers at English Village. We are asking for volunteers to assist with various stations, ensuring that all students are safe and having a great time. Volunteers will not be following individual classes. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to help and a positive attitude!
If you are available and interested in volunteering for Field Day, we are asking you to fill out the form. Your support is greatly appreciated, and we are confident that with your help, this year's Field Day will be the best one yet!
The schedule for Field Day is as follows:
9:30-11- Second Grade
11:05-12:35 –First Grade
Lunch (Lunch for all day volunteers)
1:10-2:40- Kindergarten/Murray
Thank you in advance for your support and for being a part of our school community.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Magner and Troy Prince

The Diversity, Inclusion & Leadership Network Presents this year's Juneteenth Celebration.
Juneteenth is just around the corner, and we’re excited to have our end-of-the-year BBQ celebration with you.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is a celebration for all, bringing together family and friends to honor this significant milestone in our history. It marks the end of slavery in the United States, commemorating the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This celebration is a time for reflection on how far we have come and a reminder of the ongoing journey towards equality. Our GCSD Community is invited!! This event is for everyone – students, staff, families, and the whole community. It’s all about remembering our journey and celebrating the emancipation from slavery. We’re bringing the community together with music, games, dance, food trucks, and so much more. And the best part? The BBQ dinner is FREE! We need everyone to register so we can prepare for this awesome event, and it’s super easy – just scan the QR code or click the link below. Registration is mandatory! Please register here

Importat Calendar Update
Important End-of-Year Schedule Update for PreK–8 Families The following end-of-year schedule changes for PreK–8 schools were approved by the Board of Education on May 6 and reflect the fact that the district did not use all of its allotted emergency closure (snow) days this year:
Monday, June 23: This will now be the last full day of school for all PreK–8 students, and the final day for PM pre-kindergarten students. (Originally, the last full day was scheduled for Wednesday, June 25.)
Tuesday, June 24: This will be a half-day for all PreK–8 students. AM and full-day PreK students will attend in the morning only. (Originally, the half-day was scheduled for Thursday, June 26.)
Because the program follows the school calendar, the last day of KidsCare for the school year will be Tuesday, June 24. Summer programming begins July 7.
Wednesday, June 25 – Friday, June 27: There will be no school for PreK-8 students. These days will be used for teacher professional learning and planning.
Please note: There is no change to the high school calendar.
June 16 remains the last instructional day for high school students.
From June 17–25, students in grades 9–12 will attend by exam only. Students will receive an exam schedule so they know when to attend based on their course enrollment.
Thank you for adjusting your family’s calendar and routines accordingly. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school.
