Summit Recruitment/Elementary Visits
Happy Friday! I hope this correspondence finds you well. We had an exciting week at the middle school, during which we hosted each of the elementary schools in our "Open Doors" program. Students from Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln-Hubbard, and Brayton attended an orientation. They took a student tour from current middle school students, participated in an information session with Mr. Ciferni, and met their school counselor for middle school. I was impressed with the maturity and conduct of our 5th-graders and look forward to housing them in our building next year.
PTO Graduation Lawn Signs
Please see the attached flyer to purchase your lawn sign for 8th Grade Graduation.
NJSLA Testing
This is a reminder that all students building wide will be taking NJSLA testing the week of April 29th-May 3rd. All students should please bring to school: a fully charged Chromebook and charger and NON bluetooth headphones. Cell phones and smart watches of any kind are not permitted during testing, please help us by stressing the importance of leaving their phones and watches home or secured in their lockers during testing periods. Teachers will collect phones and watches if students bring them to the testing room. Please encourage your students to get a good night's sleep, have a healthy breakfast, and be on time to school! Thank you!!!!

Sleep Health for Students
-Avoid daytime naps. This can make falling asleep at night more difficult.
-Turn off any device with a lighted screen, such as cell phones, electronic games, and the computer, at least one hour before bedtime. The light from the screens can cause sleep problems that will keep your child awake.
-Remove phones/screens from their bedroom at night. An alarm clock can be used instead of a phone alarm.
-Keep your child active during the day but avoid strenuous activities before bedtime.
-Avoid drinks with caffeine, such as sodas, energy drinks, coffee, and tea, especially in the afternoon and evenings.
-Avoid a big meal before bedtime but your child should not go to bed hungry. A light snack before bed is a good idea.
-Make it a family priority to get enough sleep. Set clear limits, such as what time lights must be turned off.
- Encourage and model relaxing activities to help wind down, like listening to music or reading a book before bedtime.
-Avoid bigger conversations near bedtime that may keep their minds awake. Stick to topics that will not upset him or her.
-Keep a regular sleep schedule. Your child should try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. If they like to sleep later on the weekends, they should wake up within 2 hours of the weekday wake-up time. For example, if their wake-up time is at 7 AM during the week, then the weekend wake-up time should be no later than 9 AM.
-Use beds only for sleep. Do not allow eating or watching TV in bed.
Many mood-related issues can also be derived from lack of sleep. These are good first steps to ensure your child is as healthy as possible, both physically and mentally.
Handicapped Parking Spots
Please remember that when picking up and dropping off students, handicapped parking spots are reserved ONLY for those with a handicap placard. We understand that the parking lot is hectic during those times, and we appreciate your understanding in keeping the spots available for those with a handicap placard. Those violating this law can face consequences such as ticketing or towing. Thank you for your continued support in helping things run smoothly.

The ECO-Club is running a sneaker drive! Drop off athletic shoes in any condition in the bins by the main entrance. The collection ends April 26th.
