Elevating Voices
March 7, 2024

A Message from Superintendent Rachel Kinder, Ed.S
As we reflect on the significance of Black History Month in February and embrace the ongoing celebration of Women's History Month in March, it is so important that we continue amplifying the voices of every student, staff member, and family in our shared community. Our District is committed to ensuring that every person feels valued, represented, and heard. Let's celebrate our diversity and continue creating a welcoming environment where everyone's story matters.
Some of our student and staff spotlights are shared below, in addition to some important reminders about Kindergarten Enrollment, sharing your voice with 5 Essentials, and our upcoming Spring Break. With warmer weather and more daylight hours coming soon, I encourage everyone to enjoy some fresh air and outdoor activities, and take a moment to hear some of the amazing stories happening right here at Valley View!

Mei Alvarez, 5th grade student at Independence Elementary School, connects with Women's History Month in March by admiring her mother and grandmother, both who inspire her to work hard and achieve great things.
King Walker officially became the first member of the Class of 2037 when he enrolled for Kindergarten next year at Pioneer Elementary School. We can't wait to see King's growth and progress through the next years!

VVSD Staff Spotlight
The first full week of March is National School Social Work Week. This week-long celebration shines a spotlight on the dedicated professionals who play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being and success of students across the nation.
In recognition of the invaluable service our VVSD school social workers provide, we visited with Romeoville HS Social Worker Chloe Leo. Chloe’s interest in becoming a school social worker was sparked by her growing awareness as a student of the class, racial, and societal inequality of disproportionate discipline in schools.
