SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY
School Zone Safety
We want to bring this important matter to your attention to support the safety of our learning community. If you have any questions please let us know. Thank you for your partnership in supporting safety in the School Zone at arrival and dismissal.
The safety of our students is the most important goal during drop-off and pick-up. We all have the responsibility to see that every child is safe. In addition, we need to keep traffic moving to facilitate student arrival and dismissal in a timely way. It is imperative that the following rules are observed.
For dismissal we have three areas where students are dismissed; walker, car rider, and bus rider. If your student is being picked up in a car please be sure to use the car pick-up and not the walker area to pick your student up during dismissal. Students that are in the walker dismissal area will need their adult to walk up to pick them up. If you would prefer to stay in your vehicle please utilize the car rider to pick up your student. We want to be sure that students remain safe at pick up. This helps with the flow of traffic and to keep our walkers safe from multiple moving vehicles at a time.
If your student may need to change where they are dismissed for the school day please let their teacher know so they can have them go to the correct dismissal area. Below are a few school zone safety reminders. Thank you for your patience and for following the arrival and dismissal procedures for safety of students, family, and community. Go CV Cougars!
Pedestrian Reminders:
Please do not cross between or behind the buses. This includes riding scooters.
Please be sure to cross the street at the designated crosswalks.
Look left-right-left before stepping into the street.
Look before walking past stopped vehicles.
Children and Adults should cross the street only where marked for pedestrian crossing.
Please do not let your child run between cars because other drivers may not see your child.
Driver Reminders:
Please slow down when arriving and departing the school.
Please do not leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running. The engine needs to be turned off and parked in the correct direction with the flow of traffic.
Please do not park against the flow of traffic.
Please do not leave your vehicle parked in the middle of the street unattended.
Please do not call and or wave for your student to cross between cars and traffic. They must use the crosswalk.
Anticipate more traffic in school zones.
Always stop for walkers in the crosswalk.
Always stop for school buses.
Please be sure to not park, pick-up, or drop off in the crosswalks.
Please do not park next to another vehicle (double-parking).
Please do not move the cones or drive over the cones.
Please do not park next to the cones.
Follow the no parking signs in the designated areas.
Please be sure to not drive or park against the flow of traffic.
Please do not drop students off at the cones.
Please do not stop at the curbs in front of the school. Doing so creates unsafe conditions for others (pedestrians, buses, other cars).
If you are picking up your child in the car please pick them up in the car pick up line and not the walker area.
When dropping/picking off at the loop, please pull as far forward as possible to alleviate other cars blocking traffic in the street.
If parking in the designated reserved ADA parking spaces please remember the state reserved parking permit is required.

REMINDER: TOYS AT SCHOOL
Hello Cougar Parents and Guardians,
Please remind your student(s) that toys are to be kept at home and not brought to school. We cannot be held responsible for missing or broken items brought from home. We know it's exciting to share favorite toys with friends but we don't want sad or upset students if something happens to their favorite toy. For this simple reason, please leave all toys at home. Thank you for your partnership.

- Follow instructions of all staff and teachers on the playground.
- Pay attention to whistles when they are blown.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We in the Tukwila School District acknowledge that the land where we teach, collaborate, learn and play is the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish and Muckleshoot people past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish and Muckleshoot Tribes. As a public school district we have a responsibility for the stewardship of this land and we strive to work alongside the Duwamish and Muckleshoot people who have been living and working here since time immemorial.
We further acknowledge that the burden of environmental exploitation and systemic injustice falls upon the labor of black and brown bodies in the building of this country and its institutions. We remember that black and brown people were born and died working this land against their will for generations. We also acknowledge the continued contribution of the labor of survivors – over the centuries to today – of all immigrant labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced and undocumented peoples in the building of what we refer to as the United States.
As a school district leadership, we pledge to recognize and work against systems that have historically and currently enforce and create inequities among the people we serve.
Visit the Duwamish tribe website to find out ways you can stand with the Duwamish.
